Every new and recurring character

Moana 2 is almost here, and here are all the cast members and characters returning or debuting in the film. 2016 Moana brought to life an entirely new class of iconic Disney characters, including the likes of Moana and Maui. As the duo returns, they’ll be aided by an all-new cast of characters, and here’s everything we know about Moana 2has been released so far.

Moana will leave the island of Motunui once again, with her being summoned to a great journey by the spirit of her ancestors. Together with Maui, Moana must form a guidance team to adventure and save another mysterious island. Moana 2 is one of the most exciting films of 2024, and here are every member of Disney’s newest cast.

Auli’i Cravalho as Moana

Born November 22, 2000

Actor: Auli’i Cravalho was born on November 22, 2000, in Kohala, Hawaii, and got her big break in her acting debut as the voice of the titular protagonist in 2016 Moana. In addition to returning to reprise his role in Moana 2Cravalho has also landed roles in big films and TV shows like 2024 Mean Girls, Hailey is in it!and Krapópolis.

Notable Movies/TV Shows

Character: Returning as the protagonist of the original MoanaMoana is the daughter of the chief of Motunui. Despite her position, she wanted nothing more than to leave the island, doing so and embarking on a magical journey with Maui. After returning home, Moana 2 will see Moana receive a call from her ancestors, with her, Maui and her guidance team leaving the island and setting out on a journey to break Nalo’s curse and face a variety of new and returning threats.

Dwayne Johnson as Maui

Born May 2, 1972

Actor: Dwayne Johnson was born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California and got his big break as a professional wrestler. After gaining acclaim from wrestling as The Rock, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson jumped into the world of acting in the 2001 film The mummy returns. He then became known as an actor in family films such as The Game Plan, Tooth Fairyand the Jumanji series, action films such as Santo André, Furyand Skyscraperand films from major franchises such as Furious 7, The Scorpion King and Black Adam.

Notable Movies/TV Shows

Character: Moana 2 will see Maui return as a secondary protagonist once again, with him setting off alongside Moana on her new adventure. Maui is a demigod who has the power to transform into any animal he wishes, with his great tales and adventures tattooed on his body. After helping Moana on her first journey, Maui’s demigod powers will likely make him an indispensable member of her new crew, with him helping to fight Nalo and the film’s other villains.

Temuera Morrison as Tui

Born December 26, 1960

Actor: Temuera Morrison was born on December 26, 1960, in Rotorua, New Zealand and got his big break acting in the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street. Morrison then made the leap into film, with a critically acclaimed performance in the 1994 film. We were once warriors. Since then, Morrison has starred in several other major franchises such as Star Wars, Moanaand Aquaman.

Notable Movies/TV Shows

Character: Tui is the chief of Motunui Island and Moana’s father, with him returning after debuting in the original film. Tui was originally completely against Moana leaving the island, with him helping to cover up her ancestors’ origins. However, seeing Moana return from her first adventure made Tui soften the idea. Tui’s role in Moana 2 has not yet been revealed, although he will likely once again act as protector of the people of Motunui.

Rachel House as Tala

Born October 20, 1971

Actor: Rachel House was born on October 20, 1971, in Auckland, New Zealand and got his big break in 2002 whale rider. House went on to be a frequent collaborator with filmmaker Taika Waititi, with her appearing in projects such as Hunt for the Wild, Thor: Ragnarok, Our flag means death, Time Banditsand much more.

Notable Movies/TV Shows

Character: Tala is Tui’s mother and Moana’s grandmother, and she is one of the only people to awaken Moana’s curiosity to leave the island in the original film. Unfortunately, Tala died in the original Moana. However, she returned to continue guiding Moana as a spirit, taking the form of a manta ray. Tala will return in her spiritual form in Moana 2with her likely helping guide Moana once again.

Awhimai Fraser as Matangi

Actor: Awhimai Fraser is a New Zealand actor who is best known for voicing characters such as Elsa and Dolores in the Māori dubs of Disney films such as Frozen and Charm. However, she will play the secondary antagonist in the original version of Moana 2 whilst also reprising his role in the Māori dub.

Notable Movies/TV Shows

Character: Matangi is a new character in Moana 2with her not appearing in the original film. Matangi is a mysterious and powerful goddess of the underworld, acting as a secondary antagonist of Moana 2 after Nalo. It is not yet known how Matangi’s story will connect to the arc of Moana 2although she will undoubtedly encounter Moana’s team antagonistically at some point in the film.

Moana 2 Cast and Supporting Characters

Alan Tudyk as Heihei: Returning from MoanaHeihei is Moana’s pet rooster. Tudyk’s other credits include Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Harley Quinn.

Nicole Scherzinger as Sina: Returning from MoanaSina is Moana’s mother. Scherzinger’s other credits include Rent and Cats.

Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Simea: A new character, Simea is Moana’s younger sister. Lambert-Tsuda is making her acting debut in Moana 2.

Rose Matafeo as Lotus: A new character, Loto is one of the members of Moana’s guidance team. Matafeo’s other credits include Golden Boy and Baby ready.

David Fane as Kele: A new character, Kele is a farmer who is also part of Moana’s mentoring team. Fane’s other credits include Our flag means death and Next goal wins.

Hualālai Chung as Moni: A new character, Moni is another member of Moana’s mentoring team. Chung’s other credits include Sesame Street and NCIS: Hawaii

Gerald Ramsey as Tautai Vasa: A new character, Tautai Vasa is one of Moana’s ancestors. Ramsey will make his film debut in Moana 2.
