However, before she can celebrate the reunion, things take a nasty turn when the daughter of a former yakuza leader, Hime, imprisons her and her friends. Although Suzy and her friends eventually escape and even manage to save the titular home bot, Sonny, from wiping her memory, the closing scene of the Apple TV + Sci-Fi show introduces a major twist. Mixxy’s betrayal at the end of Sunny season 1 explained
Sunny is always right about Mixxi
in Sunny‘s closing arc, the titular Home Bot avoids talking to Suzy because she believes she might hurt her. However, Susie helps her realize that she has only helped her so far, which encourages Sonny not to erase her memory. This is when Mixxi assures Suzy that while she will accompany Sunny back to Kyoto, Suzy should go into hiding with Hiromasa and her son. Since Suzie trusts Mixxi, she agrees to her plan and allows Hiromasa to live in his cabin for a couple of days.
however, SunnyThe end of the finale reveals that Mixxi is working for the yakuza as she drives Sonny to them with Tanaka. Mixi seems guilty about her actions, but the yakuza either promised her a large sum of money or threatened to kill her family if she didn’t comply with them. therefore, Sunny The ending of season 1 confirms that, although Suzy and the crew managed to save the day by ensuring Hime could not gain access to Sunny’s dark “killer” code, they will have to meet many more challenges before emerging victorious over the yakuza.
Sunny always doubted Mixxi’s motives and even questioned whether they should trust her.
Many early clues in the Apple TV+ series hinted at Mixxy’s potential involvement with the Yakuza. For example, Sunny always doubted Mixxy’s motives and even questioned whether they should trust her. Is Masa still alive?
Massa’s fate remains uncertain
When Susie confronts him in Sunnys finale and asks her where Masa is, Hime implies that he is dead. She even reminds her that she gave him his shoes because he died after he fell. However, Hime cannot be trusted because she previously tried to fake the death of Suzy’s son and even sent his shoes to her home. SunnyThe closing moments present a story from Masa, who reveals the contents of a letter he wrote to Suzy before he went missing. In this letter, Massa expresses his uncertainty about the future.
What ScreenRant had to say about Sunny:
“What is perhaps most engaging about the series is in the way it handles AI. The writing contends with domestic robots and the potential for them to be helpful, friendly and violent. With humans able to hack their original code, the world of sunny s Futuristic homebots are riddled with questions the series is less interested in answering than in providing us with some food for thought.” – May AbdulbakiSunny Review: The Rashida Jones & Apple TV+ Mystery Series Made Me Think More Deeply About AI
But he also mentions that if Susie found his letter, It can’t be too late—”Maybe there is hope.“ He ends the letter by saying that he hopes to see her again and tells her how much he loves her. Unfortunately, as soon as the story of the letter ends, the next scene is to Mixxi taking Sonny to the yakuza. Although it is possible that Masa is still alive, the future seems bleak for all the main characters in Apple TV + Sunny.
