How to find (& beat) Lava Avatar in Genshin Impact

The Avatars of Lava in Genshin Impact are an important new enemy group from the region of Natlan, and the materials they drop are used in the Ascension process for weapons of the Nation of Pyro. As such, if you want to give the Earth Shaker Climber to Kinnich, for example, you may find yourself forced to find the location of the Lava Avatars and farm their materials. Avatars of Lava are just one of the many new types of enemies in Genshin Impact 5.0’s Natlan area, along with Wayob Manifestations, Sauroform Tribal Warriors and, of course, the Saurians.

Lava Avatars, much like Wayob Manifestations and Secret Source Automaton: Hunter-Seekers, are elite enemies in Natlan. As such, their presence is much more limited across the Nation of Pyro, and they are often much tougher to beat than regular enemies. They don’t match the power of some of the bosses, like gluttonous Yumkasaur Mountain King and Goldflame Qucusaur Tyrant, but they have gameplay mechanics in combat that players must be careful of. There are two types of creatures that compose the larger Avatar of Lava group in Genshin ImpactEach with its own set of skills.

There are only six lava avatars in the first Natlan patch

As previously mentioned, in version 5.0, the presence of Lava Avatars in Natlan is very scarce. According to the official interactive map on HoYoLAB, There are only six Lava Avatars in Natlan, as of version 5.0. There is a chance that more will be added as the Natlan map expands with future patches, thus amplifying the chances of farming Ignited Stone, Ignited Seed of Life, and Ignited Zen Eye, the Ascension Materials that Lava Lava drops when they are defeated. Several lava avatars can be defeated and looted from special challenges in Genshin Impact 5.0.

Although this is not always the case, it is common for Avatars of Lava to present themselves in pairs. Two examples of this strategy can be seen in two groups of Lava Avatars southeast of Tepeacac Rise. Another individual avatar of Lava can be found southwest of Tepeacac Rise, towards the direction of the central river leading to the Scions of the Canopy Tribe – This creature is located in an underground part. The last avatar of lava is located in the northern part of the sulphurous veins in Genshin Impact.

To reach Lava’s underground avatar, you will have to access a cave south of Tepeacac Rise. The path can be seen in the image gallery above.

Tips and strategies to defeat Lava Avatars in Genshin Impact

Two types of creatures make for two different approaches in combat

Before facing the Avatars of Lava in Natlan, you need to know that they come in two forms, and each of them has a different elemental type. Lava’s eroding avatar is a more solid-like creature and the attacks it uses are geo-based. The enemy does not have increased resistance against any particular element, but eroding avatar of lava can become weak when hit by pyro attacks. This is because Lava’s Eroding Avatar has a special state in which its gauge increases when hit by pyro attacks in Genshin Impact.

When Eroding Avatar’s Lava’s Overburn Gauge reaches certain thresholds, it takes physical DMG equal to a portion of its Max HP and, if the Fury Gauge reaches the limit, the enemy is defeated, even before its HP is necessarily depleted. Eroding the Avatar of Lava’s skills is quite simple, as it only has a few melee attacks. It is worth keeping an eye for his rolling attacks and his rock slidesBoth of which can deliver a massive geo shock to your active character’s HP bar.

For the fights, be sure to bring a shield or healer in Genshin Impact.

The other creature that composes this enemy group is called Floyd Avatar of Lava. True to its name, this creature embodies the liquid state of lava and works much differently. Liquid lava avatars are in a perpetual pyro state and have increased resistance to pyro attacks. As such, it is wise to have a damage dealer of another element when facing this opponent. Contrary to the Eroding version, Lava’s fluid avatar excels at ranged attacks, spitting lava from afar and even using his body status to swim underground before reaming for damage in Genshin Impact.

Fluid Avatar of Lava has a melee attack, but it’s limited to when your active character is too close to it. The big trick about the fights against lava avatars is that, normally, they present themselves in a duo made up of both the eroding lava avatar and the liquid lava avatar. Because of this, It is wise to have a pyro character on your team to activate the Overburn state on Lava’s eroding avatar, and a major DPS of another elemental type. To power through Fluid Avatar from Lava’s HP bar.

Contrary to the Wayob Manifestations, The attacks used by both types of lava lava are not telegraphedEspecially when it comes to ranged moves. There is a short charge time that can serve as a hint to dodge, but for these fights, especially if you don’t have a shield, it’s best to stay quick on your feet, ready to dodge at any time.

The fights against the lava avatars are not difficult, and even when they come in a pair, you should be able to dispatch them quickly if you have a strong team with strong builds. The main issue surrounding them is how rare they are on the map, meaning you may have to run farming routes and space them out over days. Even so, if you know the two types of Lava Avatars and how they each work in combat, you should have no trouble farming – especially if you use Mualani’s best build in Genshin Impact.
