Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can become close friends as players regularly interact with these NPC neighbors and give them gifts. For the most part, these animal villagers interact very well with things in their environment and can dress up in the wide variety of clothes and accessories the game offers without any problems. Unfortunately, some of the cosmetic items don’t work as well for each villager’s character model.
Reddit User Jeter_3000 shared a screenshot of his character sitting next to resident hippo, Rocco, who was happily reading a book. Rocco appears to have donned reading glasses for the activity, but these tiny glasses don’t exactly fit Rocco’s big head, providing a very humorous situation.
As Jeter_3000 points out, the glasses aren’t exactly helping much in the position they’re inas Rocco’s eyes are nowhere near aligned with the lenses. To be fair, Rocco’s big nose and mouth would also prevent him from seeing the book in his hands, but that’s another matter.
Some residents may need glasses just to get them into the ACNH
Cosmetic items are not always universal
Universal cosmetic items, like the glasses Rocco so uniquely wears, don’t always work well. As is pointed out later in the comments, the octopus villagers also don’t wear glasses properly, and this gives them a silly sense of style that can be fun to watch. Giving villagers glasses is a great way to encourage them to use these itemsalthough it can be harder to get them removed when the joke starts to get a little tiresome.
Jeter_3000’s post was followed by several humorous comments, including the comment above by poptartpope who pointed this out poor Rocco is just trying his best. Of course, this isn’t the first case of players laughing, or even getting a little frustrated, about villagers on their islands not using items correctly, such as villagers sitting on the cat’s bed like it was a chair.
Screen Rant’s take on the villagers’ unique styles
Sometimes it’s better when it doesn’t work right
Sure, it’s easy to point out that perhaps the developers could have made accessories like the glasses adjusted to fit the faces of villagers like Rocco, but I like it better this way. In a way, it makes me want to see some hippo and octopus residents move to my island so I can give them glasses.
Having silly moments, like glasses not worn properly or a village cat sitting on the floor in a cat bed, is part of ACNHcharm and make the game the joyful experience that it is. This shouldn’t be a game that takes itself too seriouslyand it can be a good reminder that sometimes it’s okay to just laugh when things don’t go right, whether it’s in a game like Animal Crossing: New Horizonsor even in real life.
