Rey Skywalker’s ancestry was a major part of these Star Wars Sequel trilogy, but there are 10 ways it could have been better if she was a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi instead of Sheev Palpatine. The revelation that Rey Skywalker was a descendant of Emperor Palpatine was one of the most controversial choices in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars Movies. While it was an important part of Star Wars Canon – It helped inspire Project Necromancer and the story of Rey’s parents in Star Wars Is quite good – it could have been better.

One of the easiest ways Star Wars Could have improved Rey’s origin by making her a Kenobi instead of a Palpatine. Both Obi-Wan and Rey were some of the most powerful Jedi ever, and he would have been a much more suitable grandfather to Rey than Palpatine was. There are 10 main reasons that Rey being a descendant of Obi-Wan would have worked better than her being a descendant of Palpatine, and one of them could have wildly changed the entire sequel trilogy and Star Wars as a whole.

The Clone Wars prevented Obi-Wan and Satine Crisis from having a child

One of the biggest reasons Rey should have removed Obi-Wan is because it would have confirmed a long-running theory of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In his youth, Obi-Wan had a brief romantic relationship with Satine Kryze, the woman who would go on to become the ruler of Mandalore. While they ended their relationship long before The Clone WarsThe show also introduced Satine’s nephew, Corky, who many fans believed was Obi-Wan’s son. Star Wars It was never officially confirmed that Corky was a product of Satine and Obi-Wan’s relationship, but the sequel trilogy may have.

in the current Star Wars Kanon, Korkie Kryze and Obi-Wan Kenobi are not related. Corky was not the son of Satin or Bo-Katan, and appears to be directly related to a third, unnamed Crisis sister.

Star Wars Essentially it could have killed two birds with one stone by making Rey a Kenobi: it could have confirmed the Korkie fan theory, and it could have used a preexisting character as Rey’s father. Corky would also go a long way to explaining Rey’s parentage naturally. He may have become a refugee after the purge of Mandalore and ended up on Jakku. Star Wars Could have done quite a bit with Corky, from making him an important Mandalorian during the New Republic era or something else, if only Rey was a Kenobi.

Rey would have been the perfect culmination of Satine and Obi-Wan’s doomed love

Korkie Kryze being Rey’s father or grandfather would not only have given her a clear lineage, but it would also have been the perfect ending to Obi-Wan and Satine’s love story. Satine’s death was one of the worst things that had ever happened to Obi-Wan, and their entire relationship was tinged with tragedy. They loved each other, yet duty called them both in different directions. One of them would leave their call for the other, but no one asked. And, in accordance with Star Wars‘ For tragedy, Obi-Wan watched Satine die in his arms, killed for the sole reason of causing him pain.

Making Rey the descendant of Obi-Wan and Satine could have done so much to give the pair a happy ending to their tragic stories. Both Obi-Wan and Satine fought their whole lives for peace, but they both died before they could see that peace. Decades later, Rey would finally fulfill their task by killing Palpatine. She would also be a living symbol of the love they had for each other, a sign that their love, however short, was strong enough to save the world. Rey being a Kenobi would have been a rare – and deserved – moment of happiness for both Obi-Wan and Satine..

Rey being a Kenobi would have been the perfect way to honor Obi-Wan’s legacy

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most recognizable and beloved characters in Star WarsBut he plays a minimal part in the final trilogy of the Skywalker saga. He utters one line to Rey when she first picks up Anakin’s lightsaber The Force AwakensAnd he was one of several Jedi voice cameos in The Rise of Skywalker. Other than that, however, Obi-Wan has very little lasting legacy in the sequels. Even when Luke was visited by an old master who wanted to set him on the right path, The Last Jedi Sent Yoda’s Force ghost instead of Obi-Wan.

Making Rey a descendant of Obi-Wan would have been the perfect way to honor and continue his legacy. Because of Rey, he would have been either directly or indirectly involved in every chapter of the Skywalker saga, from his mission with Qui-Gon Jinn on Naboo to the Battle of Exegol.. The sequel trilogy’s focus on Rey’s legacy would also have been the perfect way to include either Ewan McGregor or the late Alec Guinness as Force Ghosts, giving them a literal legacy in the trilogy.

7

Rey being a Kenobi would have tied the Skywalker saga together as well as a Palpatine.

One of the best parts of Rey being related to Emperor Palpatine was how well it tied together all nine movies in the Skywalker saga. Because of their relationship, Palpatine was the antagonist of the entire saga, and every single movie saw at least his influence, if not his direct actions. Palpatine’s return and the revelation that Rey was his descendant The Rise of Skywalker Put a bow on the entire Skywalker saga. It also turns the sequel trilogy from a story in the same galaxy in the final chapter into a generational battle between good and evil.

The thing is, Rey didn’t need to be related to Palpatine to tie the sequels into the rest of the Skywalker saga. The Rise of Skywalker Already made Palpatine the antagonist of the sequel trilogy by explaining how he used Snoke as a puppet and had been planning his resurrection for decades. On top of that, Rey being related to Obi-Wan would have provided just as clear of a connection to both the prequel and original trilogies as her relationship to Palpatine.. The best parts of Rey being a Palpatine would be preserved if she was a Kenobi.

Rey being a descendant of Obi-Wan was better placed than her being a descendant of Palpatine

Rey being a Kenobi would not only have connected the Skywalker saga as a whole, it would have connected the sequel trilogy better. The Force Awakens And The Last Jedi did very little to indicate that Rey was related to Palpatine in any way. when The Rise of Skywalker was released, it seemed very much like Rey’s relationship to the Emperor was thought of as a way to recoup some of the backlash from The Last Jedi. At that time, their relationship was considerably developed through various connections. Star Wars Show and Project Necromancer, but at the time it didn’t make much sense.

when The Rise of Skywalker was released, there was much more evidence that Rey might be related to Obi-Wan than there was for her relationship to Palpatine. That evidence began as early as The Force AwakensWhen Obi-Wan spoke to Rey through the Force. Even The Clone Wars had already hinted that Obi-Wan might have had a son in Korki some nine years before The Rise of Skywalker.

30 years later Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens New heroes Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) team up with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), who is now a general in the Rebel Alliance. Together they try to track down Luke Skywalker while fighting the First Order, led by the villainous Kylo Ren. The Force Awakens is the first Star Wars film produced by Disney and directed by JJ Abrams.

In contrast, the setup for Rey being a descendant of Palpatine didn’t start until The Mandalorian Season 1, just months before The Rise of Skywalker. It also took quite a bit to explain their relationship, as there are now several shows and a full novel explaining how she is descended from Palpatine. Explaining how Rey was related to Obi-Wan would be as simple as confirming a theory that fans already believed and using evidence from the sequel trilogy itself.

The three movies in the sequel trilogy feel quite disjointed, especially with regard to Ray’s parentage. The Force Awakens has left the identity of her parents a mystery. The Last Jedi Then revealed the mystique surrounding Ray’s parents was inconsequential, as they are ordinary junkers. Then The Rise of Skywalker Yet again changed his mind and decided that Rey’s parents are the key to the entire trilogy. Part of the reason the movies feel so disconnected is that the original plan was to make Rey a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi..

The Star Wars Sequel trilogy obviously went in a different direction for Rey’s legacy, but making her a Kenobi could have made the three films come together much more seamlessly. If the sequels had known before that Rey would be a Kenobi, rather than deciding The Rise of Skywalker If she would be a Palpatine, it could have set the three better. It would also avoid the confusion and backtracking of all three movies, and it would just have been a more cohesive story.

Rey is much more like a Kenobi than a Palpatine

Another reason Rey seems so deserving of the Kenobi family name is because she acts much more like Obi-Wan than she ever did like Palpatine. Rey has a few similarities to Palpatine, such as her ability to use Force Lightning and her general strength in the Force. She also has some connection to the dark side through the Force Dyad. Aside from these general abilities, however, she never really acted much like the Emperor. She is not self-absorbed, cruel or plotting, which are all hallmarks of the Palpatine name. Their familial bond didn’t seem to affect Rey’s personality much.

Throughout the sequel trilogy, Rey behaved and thought much more like Obi-Wan than Palpatine. She was loyal and trusting to a fault, just like Obi-Wan. They also both paid for the trust: Kylo Ren’s influence on Rey and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s duels with Darth Vader brought both Jedi as close to the dark side as they would get.. Additionally, both Rey and Obi-Wan are the pinnacle of the Jedi Order, and symbols of what a Jedi should be. They were kind, compassionate and courageous people, and Rey was much more similar to Obi-Wan than her canonical ancestors.

3

Being a Kenobi would have made Rey closer to Ben Solo

The Star Wars Sequel trilogy tied Rey and Kylo Ren together quite closely through the Force dyad and their mutual problems with identity and legacy. Rey was struggling with not knowing her parents and trying to figure out what kind of legacy they left her, while Kylo Ren was struggling with the burden of the Skywalker legacy. Rey being a Palpatine played on that nicely, as she became a child of the dark side who chose the light to mirror Kylo Ren’s role as a child of the light who chose the dark, but making her a Kenobi could have been even better.

By making Rei a Kenobi, Star Wars Could also make her a perfect Kylo Ren parallel. Being part of the Palpatine bloodline made Rey the mirror image of Kylo Ren, but being part of the Kenobi bloodline would have made them parallels who started out with much more similar backgrounds.. It would also have opened up some great opportunities for their characters, like Rey learning how to live up to the Kenobi name and Ben learning how to live up to the Solo name. It would also have played perfectly into a major part of Ray’s internal struggle.

2

Rey may have struggled with her Kenobi ancestry just as much as her Palpatine ancestry

Aside from how it ties into the Skywalker saga, one of the best parts of Rey’s relationship with Palpatine is what it does for her character development. The Rise of Skywalker Shown Rey knows that she has inherited an incredibly dark and evil heritage, and the whole movie was about her learning to overcome her evil nature and choosing to be good in spite of it. Although there would certainly be differences, Rey could have overcome the same internal conflict through her relationship with Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan’s legacy was one of pain, and there would have been more than enough material to use for Rey to receive that legacy. Inside, Rey would have to come to terms with the fact that she was a product of Obi-Wan’s relationship with Satine, a relationship that was one of his biggest regrets in life.. Obi-Wan also prided himself on being a Jedi, but his relationship with Satine was the closest he ever came to leaving the Order. Rey would have to learn how to be a good Jedi even though the whole reason she existed was because one of the best Jedi ever left the Order.

Rey’s connection to Obi-Wan may have been just as emotionally poignant as her connection to Palpatine.

Rey may also have some external problems from Obi-Wan’s legacy. Obi-Wan couldn’t bring Anakin back from the dark side, and if he was able to talk to Rey in the sequel trilogy, he probably would have told her to kill Kylo Ren rather than try to redeem him. That would have perfectly set up Ben Solo’s redemption at the end of The Rise of SkywalkerAnd it would be a chance for Rey to learn to step out of Obi-Wan’s shadow and succeed where her grandfather had failed.. Rey’s connection to Obi-Wan may have been just as emotionally poignant as her connection to Palpatine.

1

Rey would have a much easier time rebuilding the Jedi order with a Kenobi family than a Palpatine family

The last reason Rey should have been a Kenobi instead of a Palpatine is because it would have helped her future tremendously. Ray is set to star in an upcoming Star Wars Movie, tentatively titled New Jedi Order. The film will follow Rey as she tries to rebuild the Jedi Order and bring peace to the galaxy once again. The problem is that her connection to Palpatine will almost certainly be an issue in this goal. The galaxy will remember just how much grief and pain Palpatine caused, and if they know who Rey’s grandfather was, they may resist her bid to rebuild the Order..

The tenth mainline installment in the Star Wars franchise is the first movie to follow the sequel trilogy, where Mark Hamill’s Luke, Carrie Fisher’s Leia, and Harrison Ford’s Han Solo bid their final farewells. After the release of The Rise of Skywalker, development on a direct sequel became dormant as Disney shifted focus to other parts of the galaxy, namely Disney+ shows such as The Mandalorian, Andor and Ahsoka. However, a movie starring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023.

It’s an incredibly interesting direction to see how Rey handles being known as a Palpatine New Jedi Order To take, it may not be the best. Revising Rey’s connection to Palpatine could be seen as retreading ground The Rise of Skywalker Already covered, and it might slow down the new movie unnecessarily. If Rey were a Kenobi, however, she wouldn’t experience nearly as much opposition from the galaxy in her goal of rebuilding the Jedi Order. Rey Kenobi might have allowed New Jedi Order To jump over the past and get straight into new and exciting storylines.

While there are several reasons Rey should have been a Kenobi instead of a Palpatine, that doesn’t mean her current heritage is bad. The themes and emotions The Rise of Skywalker Revealing how Rey is connected to Palpatine are some of the best parts of the movie, and Palpatine was far from the worst choice for Rey’s most prominent relative. It also opened the door to quite a few great stories, from The Mandalorian to Shadow of the Sith. There are also many other ways Star Wars Can explore Rey’s connection to the Emperor, and they will surely be worth watching.
