Notice! This article contains spoilers for Arcane Season 2.
Despite Arcaneare very well known League of Legendsinspired characters, the most exciting of the show is the one I never expected: Mel. Arcaneof League of Legends The characters are aplenty, and as someone who has experience playing the game the Netflix show is based on, I knew characters like Vi, Jinx, Ekko, Jayce, and Viktor beforehand, to name just a few players in Arcanecast of characters. However, characters like Mel Medarda, her mother Ambessa and Silco were unknown quantities to me, whose stories I am grateful to have known since Arcane season 2 finale.
When it comes to someone like Ambessa, I was surprised to learn that Arcane led to the character being included in League of Legendsinstead of her existing in the latter before the former, like Vi, Jinx and Jayce, for example. The plot of Medarda, from the political aspects to the imminent war with ArcaneBlack Rose, was incredibly emotional, with Arcane Season 2 potentially creating another character to follow in her mother’s footsteps, becoming a League champion after the fact: Mel. Mel’s arc was fascinating, as were her new powers and the potential they hold for the future.
Arcane Season 2 tied Mel to the Black Rose
Mel is a sorceress like her mother’s enemies
Mel’s story in Arcane season two centered on exploring her mother’s past, specifically why her mother’s war with the Black Rose is ongoing. In Arcane Season 2, Act II, Mel discovered that her mother once fathered a child with magical powers who was born to be a weapon, which led to Black Rose capturing Kino, Mel’s brother, and then her. The Black Rose intends to find this child with innate magical ability, as she could be trained by the sorcerers of the cabal.
Arcane season 2 revealed that this child was Mel. Mel’s powers manifest and she briefly aligns herself with Black Rose to stop her mother’s attack on Piltover. This connection with the Black Rose made Mel an even more intriguing character than she already was, while also providing her with a series of new magical powers.
Mel’s Amazing New Powers Explained
Mel’s sorcery skills are potent
All over Arcane season 2, Act III, Mel’s new powers are highlighted. Her primary abilities revolve around protection, with Mel often creating glowing shields around her targets. It is revealed that it was with this power that Mel inadvertently saved herself and Jayce from Jinx’s attack in Arcane end of season 1. In Arcane In Season 2, she used these shields to protect Caitlyn during her fight with Ambessa. However, Mel can do more than protect. She was even shown holding one of Viktor’s Hextech dolls in place, as well as facing off against Ambessa.
Mel’s protective abilities can take the form of blunt explosions. She is shown using her golden magic rays to push Ambessa back at different points. On a deeper level, the Black Rose leader explains some of Mel’s powers in Arcane season 2, episode 8. She is described as an empath, attuned to the ethereal. Apparently, Mel can sense other people’s inner selves and direct their magic at her will like a conduit and a mirror. The mirror element is tied to her reflective and protective abilities, but her other powers will likely grow as Mel’s story unfolds.
Can’t wait to see more of Mel in the inevitable arcane spinoffs
It turns out that Mel’s story is really about to grow, and I can’t wait to see more. I was aware that ArcaneThe final season of wouldn’t be the last we see of these characters, as the show’s creators have confirmed that several spin-offs are in the works. One of these spin-offs could easily center on Mel and her new abilities, especially if Arcane the final scenes of season 2 are any indication.
This suggests that Mel continues her mother’s rivalry with Black Rose, sparking a Arcane spin-off in which Mel goes against other wizards like her…
As I mentioned, Mel defeated the leader of the Black Rose in Arcane season 2 finale, defeating Ambessa on her own terms. Afterwards, Mel is shown wearing her mother’s costume as well as her iconic golden mask, implying that young Medarda will take Ambessa’s place. While I expect Mel to be a more benevolent leader than Ambessa, this change is interesting. This suggests that Mel continues her mother’s rivalry with Black Rose, sparking a Arcane spin-off in which Mel goes against other wizards like her, learning more about her exciting new powers as she does so.
Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane focuses on sisters Violet and Powder (later Jinx), who end up on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and its dark underground city, whose citizens wish to break away from their oppressors. . Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell and Kevin Alejandro star in this animated adventure.
