Daniel Craig has finally stepped down from the role of 007 after playing the character for 15 years, sparking the search for the next James Bondbut I’m convinced that Pierce Brosnan should return for the next film. Having first played 007 in 1995, the actor has starred in four Connection films, with its final release coming in 2002 Die another day. Since then, Pierce Brosnan has never found his James Bond replacement that makes the return more compelling, and I think he deserves the chance to play the iconic agent once again.
While it certainly feels like the right time to involve new blood in the franchise, the search for the next lead has been going on for some time. The difficult casting conditions for Bond 26main actor became a problem, as Craig announced that he would step down in 2017 and confirmed in 2019, but his successor has not yet been decided. As a result, Bond 26 doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon unless an old name returns, and since Brosnan could still play 007, I believe he’s the perfect man for the job.
James Bond 26 Revisiting an older 007 would be a refreshing change
Returning to a previous tie-in outside of its prime would be an interesting new direction for the franchise
All over James BondIn the actor’s history, switching to a new, traditionally younger actor has been common, but returning to Pierce Brosnan would offer a somewhat fresh take on the film series. Instead of having the usual depiction of Bond in his prime, seeing him still operating in his old age could be fun, and I personally would love to see that. Each actor always brings their own spin to the character, but we rarely watch 007 trying to deal with younger bullies while clearly being a little less skilled than he used to be.
Daniel Craig’s interpretation of There’s no time to die contributed a little to this, as although he wasn’t very old, the film highlighted James Bond fighting after so many years in the field, but Pierce Brosnan could take it a step further. It still seems capable of providing enough action scenes to keep the films entertaining and having the protagonist use his wisdom along with experience to survive would provide a much-needed fresh approach. James Bond may be known for its great stunts, but the franchise wouldn’t have been as successful if it weren’t for its interesting stories and characters.
Therefore, changing the traditional formula of a film is something that can work. Brosnan’s portrayal of Bond is easily one of the best in the seriesbut it wasn’t his daring stunts or combat skills that made his version of the character so successful. Instead, it was his smooth charm and vibrant personality that made him memorable, and utilizing that to convey an older version of 007 sounds like fun in my books.
A 007 film starring Pierce Brosnan would make for a bigger reboot before the next era of James Bond
The search for the next James Bond is still ongoing, making now the perfect time for Brosnan’s return
Although James Bond has rarely had difficulty resetting the story in the past, having Bronson fill the gap between Craig’s era and the next actor would be ideal. Producing a unique film that allows Brosnan to provide a unique take on one of Hollywood’s most well-known characters would give more time to build the next film without trying to rush it. Without a director or actor in place, it could be a few more years before Bond 26 is actually ready in its current statebut bringing Brosnan on board now would help make the wait between projects much shorter.
The Craig era may be the only set of Connection films that modern audiences are accustomed to, but Brosnan will still be a memorable face for long-term viewers, making his return the perfect stopgap before moving on to an entirely new story.

The lack of updates made James Bond 26Brosnan’s future is worrying, but Brosnan’s return for one more run would resolve most of the current issues and make creating a successor much easier. Even though it’s unlikely, the actor who helped redefine the franchise would be the logical next step, while also giving it a well-deserved final outing.
Pierce Brosnan wouldn’t even be the first James Bond actor to return
Sean Connery returned to play James Bond after a decade away from the character
Pierce Brosnan’s return would be a huge moment for James Bond It’s an extremely bold decision, but it wouldn’t be the first time an actor reprized the role. Sean Connery is often considered the greatest Bond of all timebut his time as the character was divided into two decades. He was the first actor to portray 007 on the big screen and played him from 1962 to 1967 before leaving the role. However, Connery returned four years later after George Lazenby played the character and returned once again for a final appearance in 1983.

Given that Connery took several breaks from the role and was welcomed back without tarnishing his legacy, I don’t see why Brosnan can’t do the same. He’s still a huge name, has the right attributes to play an older Bond, and I’m sure fans would love to see him in the franchise for a final appearance, especially if they wait a few more years for another one. James Bond film is the only alternative. Whether or not he will actually return remains to be seen, but if Connery can return, so can Brosnan, and I hope he is heavily considered for Bond 26.
