10 best armor and what they do

Having the right equipment is everything Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remakeand this applies to both armor and weapons. As in almost any RPG, armor affects the equipped character’s defense. And like many RPGs, certain armor in DQ3 have special effects, such as increasing your defense against certain types of attacks or even offering exclusive advantages.

Also important to note is that certain armors are restricted to certain vocations in Dragon Quest 3 – don’t expect to put plate armor on your Mage or wear a thin tunic on your Warrior. You’ll inevitably upgrade and shuffle your armor throughout the game as you find new pieces in chests, as quest rewards, or in shops, but here are the best armors you should be looking for.

10

The sparkling dress is great but limited

Defense against fire and ice

The Sparkling Dress is one of the most powerful sets in Dragon Quest 3. With an impressive defense of 90, the Sparkling Dress can be equipped by any class: Hero, Warrior, Martial Artist, Mage, Priest, Thief, Merchant, Gadabout, Sage, and Monster Wrangler. One can be found inside the Zoma Citadel, but that’s all there is – you can’t buy this one anywhere.

Defense

90

Special Effect

You take less damage from fire and ice spells.

Besides its exclusivity, the only problem with the Sparkling Dress is that can only be equipped by heroines i.e. characters who selected body type B at the start of the game. You probably have someone in your group who can use it, but it’s not always possible to get it to the person who needs it most, which can hurt its long-term usefulness.

9

The Cloak Of Evasion is a great mid-game armor

Escaping

The green and crumpled Cloak of Evasion in Dragon Quest 3.

Found in an abundance of late-game to mid-game shops, the Cloak of Evasion is another versatile piece that can be equipped by absolutely any Vocation. Players can purchase it for 2,900G from item or equipment shops in Asham, Isis, Lanson, Mur, and Norvik, but don’t waste your money – Ghouls and Rumble Bees will occasionally drop these itemsso it’s probably better to buy one with a little grind.

Defense

23

Special Effect

Increases evasion rate by an unknown amount.

Cloak of Evasion’s special effect is, predictably, an increase to the equipped character’s evasion stat. This determines how often they can dodge enemy attacks. Works well on Thieves, Mages, Sages, Priests, or anyone else with relatively low HP, but can also be equipped on a Warrior or Hero to increase their naturally high defenses. It’s easy to get four of them together with a little effort, so you can even equip each party member with an Evasion Cloak if you want.

Magic robes are mandatory for casters

Fascinated

The red, fur-lined magical robes in Dragon Quest 3.

If you have a Sage or Priest in the party (and you should), There will probably come a time when you will put them in a set of magical robes. This type of armor can only be equipped by Sages and Priests – not even Mages – and can be purchased from Landon or Theddon for 4,400 G each. Magic robes don’t drop from any enemies or appear in any chests that I know of, so you’ll have to search for them and buy them.

Defense

30

Special Effect

Reduced damage from all spells.

Magical Robes offer a solid defense of 30 (which is perfectly acceptable once you start finding them). More importantly, however, they buffer the damage of all incoming spellswhich can be extremely useful for keeping those weaker members of your party alive and ready to heal everyone else. If you have a healer in your party, buy a set of Magic Robes as soon as possible.

7

Glombolero makes magic easier

Plus it’s fun to say

The Glombolero was also designed primarily for spellcaster classes (in this case Priests, Sages, and Wizards), but can actually be equipped by anyone. Offers average defense at 30, but has an important side effect: Glombolero halves the cost of casting all spells. Naturally, it makes more sense to field a character who is constantly casting – your offensive Mage, your defensive Priest, or the best-of-both-worlds Sage. But it wouldn’t be wasted on a character who does more than attack, like a Hero.

Defense

30

Special Effect

MP costs of all spells are halved.

Unfortunately, there is only one place I know of to find a Glombolero: in a chest in Cloudsgate Citadel. They don’t seem to be able to be purchased anywhere else, so you’ll probably be stuck with one for the entire game. Still, put it on the right character at the right time and you’ll get through some of the longest dungeons in the game.

6

Spiked armor attacks back

A must for tanks

A golden Spiked Armor costume in Dragon Quest 3, emblazoned with a blue and yellow cross on its abdomen.

We’re used to thinking of armor as a defensive measure, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In Dragon Quest 3players can claim spiked armor from the Maw of the Necrogond, with a special effect that deals damage back to the attacker. That’s right: Half of the damage dealt to the character with spiked armor equipped will be reflected back to the enemydecreasing their HP while the player patiently waits for their next turn.

Defense

55

Special Effect

Enemies that attack take half the damage they inflict.

With 55 defense, Spiked Armor is decent, but is easily surpassed by a handful of late-game options. Still, it’s a cool trick, and going through a dungeon or two with Spiked Armor equipped can be a lot of fun.

Since your characters’ formation determines how likely enemies are to attack them, you must put Spiked Armor on the character that comes first in your lineup – usually the hero or heroine.

5

The dark cloak is a better evasion cloak

Only for certain vocations

A tattered blue Dark Robe in Dragon Quest 3.

If you loved Cloak of Evasion but were disappointed to find its usefulness ended as the game dragged on and enemies required greater defense, this one’s for you. The Dark Robe can only be found in a treasure chest in Cantlin; it cannot be purchased anywhere. Can be equipped by Martial Artists, Thieves, and Gadabouts. Offering 70 defense, it is a powerful protection option. But beyond that, the Dark Robe also increases your evasion much as the Cloak of Evasion does.

Defense

78

Special Effect

Increases the evasion rate.

What is more, the Dark Robe appears to increase evasion by a greater factor than the Cloak of Evasion. It should be considered a late-game upgrade for any party member who relies most on evasion – probably your Thief if you have one, but any other character who can equip it will also benefit from it.

4

The angel’s cloak is necessary in some fights

Avoiding instant deaths

The long, flowing pink Angel's Robe in Dragon Quest 3.

Whack and Thwack are great spells to have in your arsenal, but it’s always annoying to fall victim to one of these instant kills. There is always a degree of chance involved, but unfortunately there are relatively few ways to avoid them 100% of the time. Except for the Angel’s Robe, that is, Completely nullifies the effects of Whack and Thwack when cast on the user. However, it can only be equipped by a Mage, a Priest or a Sage, and can only be purchased from the Fairy Village shop.

Defense

35

Special Effect

Whack and Thwack are countered.

In addition, however, There’s definitely better armor out there than Angel’s Robe. 35 is quite low for the point where players encounter it, and its special effects are only useful in certain scenarios. Still, it is necessary for certain areas where enemies or bosses that cast Thwack can be encountered.

3

Auroral armor is the best armor in the base game

But there is only one

From afar the best armor Dragon Quest 3The base game is Auroral Armor. It doesn’t have the highest defense in the game (although it is quite respectable at 82). More importantly, though, it has a special effect that keeps the equipped character in good combat shape, passively restoring their HP whenever they walk. This will leave them at full (or near full) health practically 24/7, meaning far fewer healing items are needed and the character using them is basically invincible. Also decreases damage done by fire and ice spells.

Defense

82

Special Effect

Damage dealt by fire and ice spells is reduced and the equipped character is automatically healed while walking.

The Auroral Armor can only be found in the Tower of Rubiss, and there is only one. Unfortunately, Auroral Armor can only be equipped by the hero or heroine – no other member of the group can use it, regardless of Vocation. This severely limits its usefulness, but don’t worry, there is an alternative.

2

The blessed bikini is better auroral armor

Equipable by (almost) anyone

A character wearing the Blessed Bikini in Dragon Quest 3.

The Blessed Bikini has basically the same effects as the Auroral Armor: fire and ice damage reduced by two-thirds and one HP healed per step. Its biggest advantage over Auroral Armor, however, is that can be equipped by any characterregardless of vocation, as long as they are female. He also has a slightly higher defense at 88.

Defense

88

Special Effect

Damage dealt by fire and ice spells is reduced and the equipped character is automatically healed while walking.

Just like the Auroral Armor, however, there is only one Blessed Bikini and only one way to obtain it: you will have to deliver 95 Mini Medals to the Aliahan well shopkeeper. This means it may take a while (and a lot of exploration) to get to.

1

The Godbird armor is the best post-game armor

Even better Auroral armor

A group of players walking through the Temple of Trials in Dragon Quest 3. They descend golden stairs between spiky towers.

Introduced only in HD-2D remakeThe game’s new post-game challenge, the Temple of Trials, the Godbird Armor is the best armor in the entire game. It is found in the northeast part of the Temple, in a treasure chest next to Pandora’s Box and a Mini Medal. It is the highest in terms of defense and self-healing, having a similar effect to Auroral Armor. Unfortunately, like the Auroral Armor, it can only be equipped by the hero or heroine.

Defense

90

Special Effect

Damage dealt by fire and ice spells is reduced and the equipped character is automatically healed while walking.

Still, once they get it, players won’t have much time to use the Godbird Armor. They are quickly running out of battles to fight, but they can use them in what are apparently some of the game’s toughest challenges. It’s one of the only items that can keep up with the superbosses of the Temple of Trials, which is why it’s the best armor in the game. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
