Many of the most powerful magic items in Baldur’s Gate 3 Can be found in the Lower City during the third act of the game. Which is good, because it makes it harder to miss things by progressing through quests too quickly. However, there are some incredibly powerful pieces of gear that disappear from the game once players get to a certain point in a popular side quest.
The quest in question is “Find the Nightsong,” which persists through each act of the play and culminates in a magical shop called Sorcerous Sundries. Here, talking to certain NPCs will move the quest into its final state. Many players will do this early in the act, which is unfortunate because a certain vendor will stop selling powerful equipment once players get to that point.
The magic items on the line
Great pick-ups for casters and marshals alike
The items up for grabs are all sold at the front desk of Sorcerous Sundries, either by a projection of the wizard Loroacan, or his latest apprentice, Rolan. The difference there depends on whether players keep Rolan alive or let him die in Act 2. If there is Rolan vending in the place, things will be a little easier to getSo that is preferable.
If Rolan is the vendor, not only is he more susceptible to being pickpocketed, but he can only be targeted by the instant fein death if the player has a high enough approval rating with him.
There are six unique magic items sold by this vendor, including these Quickspell gloves
And these Ring of Regeneration
. Each of them is quite expensive, even with discounts players can get from affinity with Rolan or quests in the lower city. Regardless, Act 3 has a lot of money available through both legal and illegal actions, and players would be wise to spend whatever they have to buy these items when they first get the chance.
Lorroacan and the Nightsong
A satisfying end to a quest, but at a great cost
Proceeding into Sorcerous Sundries eventually leads to a series of portals, one of which leads to Lorroakan, Lord of the Tower, and a wizard searching for information on the Nightsong. Players will know by this point The Nightsong is actually a human, an Aasimar named Dame Aylin. Players can tell Lorroacan that they have the Nightsong or that she is dead; Either way, they have the chance to tell Aylin about Lorroakan back at their camp, prompting her to fly to his tower.
The vendor will be unavailable until players either kill Lorroacan or help him capture the Celestial.
This is the trigger to make all the aforementioned magic items unavailable. Once Aylin flies away, Lorroakan’s projection will disappear, and Rolan will proceed to the top of the tower. The vendor will be unavailable until players either kill Lorroacan or help him capture the Celestial.
After that, if Rolan is alive and Lorroacan isn’t, he will take over the tower. But whoever rules the tower makes no difference: The magic items never return to the inventories of their shopkeeper. The projection will reappear down (either from Lorroakan or Rolan), but will only sell spell scrolls. Roland himself will not have these things on his person to be pickpocketed or looted. They are simply gone.
Why do the items disappear in Sorcerous Sundries?
Is the consequence intentional or not?
Probably, this is some sort of bug from the end of the Nightsong quest. There is no historical reason why these items should become unavailable in any outcome. But their loss can be devastating if players meant to acquire them later after accumulating the necessary funds.
It also appears that, Sometimes, certain things like these Birthright
Hat can still be found in Rolan’s inventory. This would indicate that this is unintentional, and that players are meant to still be able to get them. Still, until it’s changed, players should remember to stock up on their magical necessities before time runs out in Baldur’s Gate 3.
