Don Cheadle shared his reaction to Robert Downey Jr Doctor Doom From the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cheadle and RDJ share a long history in the MCU, with the actors’ bond dating back to the 2010s Iron Man 2. Cheadle has now responded to the MCU return of Downey, who happens to be Doctor Doom, not Iron Man.

About RDJ’s Doctor Doom casting: “I was like, ‘What the f*ck? They’re rewriting, they’re reworking, and so I honestly can’t even tease anything.’
About Avengers: Secret Wars: “I’m not sure what you’re talking about. I heard of a Rousseau brother. There are two? You know I can’t talk about these things.”
How RDJ’s Doctor Doom Return Could Change War Machine History
Don Cheadle’s Rhodey has a major project lined up
With Downey back in the MCU, multiple storylines planned for the Multiverse Saga should have changes. The biggest one of them is related to Kong the Conqueror and his variants, who should be killed, ignored or play a smaller role now that RDJ’s Doctor Doom has taken over as the main villain of the next two Avengers movies. However, War Machine’s MCU story may also be affected by Downey’s shocking return to the franchise. The reason for this is Iron Man’s legacy.
The MCU has been set to explore the legacy of Downey’s Tony Stark through multiple projects, with Disney+’s Ironheart series and the planned Armor Wars movie being the biggest of them. The latter has no release date yet, but it would feature Cheadle’s War Machine as its main character. However, RDJ’s MCU return may lead to the scrapping of the project. With the Iron Man actor back in the franchise and serving as the MCU’s biggest villain, exploring Downey’s past at the same moment that the MCU is setting up its Doctor Doom might be too much.
War Machine’s story would be caught in the crossfire, with the character’s first project as a lead in doubt. However, if RDJ’s Doctor Doom happens to be a Tony Stark variant, Rhodey could end up becoming one of the main characters of the next two Avengers movies. Given his close ties to Tony Stark, Don Cheadle’s War Machine may have an important role in the films even if Doctor Doom Is not a Stark variant, simply due to his reactions and inner turmoil at seeing a character who looks just like his best friend.
Avengers: Secret Wars is the sixth Avengers film and takes place during Phase Six of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. The film will see several heroes from previous phases return and fight against a cosmic threat to rival Thanos, and borrows elements from the Marvel Comics event of the same name.
