Ben Stiller Addressed Some of the Projects He’s Considering Next Termination. The Apple TV+ show, starring Adam Scott, is a sci-fi thriller set in an office where employees’ minds are torn between their work and personal lives. In addition to being one of the show’s executive producers, Emmy-winning actor Ben Stiller directed six of the first season’s nine episodes and is set to direct five of the next season’s ten episodes. Termination season 2.
During a recent conversation with Collider that happened while he was promoting Escape from DannemoraBen Stiller discussed ideas for his next directorial project. Although he admitted that most of his time was occupied with Terminationhe offered insight into what he plans to work on next. The first project he mentioned he has his eye on is Killing the Badgerwhat would it be the story of “Greg LeMond, the first American to win the Tour de France.“
The other project, which is further along, is a documentary about his parents that he is working on”almost four years.” His parents are well-known industry figures, as his father is Emmy-nominated actor Jerry Stiller (Seinfeld, The King of Queens) and her mother is Tony nominee and four-time Emmy nominee Anne Meara (Homicide: life on the street, Archie Bunker’s House). Read Stiller’s full quote about future projects below:
I have some things I’ve been wanting to do. One of them that I’ve been nurturing and nurturing for a while is Slaying the Badger, which is about the 1986 Tour de France and Greg LeMond, the first American to win the Tour de France. That’s a story I really want to tell and that could be the next thing. But honestly, we’ve been working full steam ahead on Severance.
So the other thing I’m working on is this documentary about my parents. This is something I’ve been working on for almost four years and I think we’re getting to the point where I’ll finish it in the first part of next year. This is taking up my time.
What this means for Ben Stiller
More direction is on the cards
As Stiller’s comments reveal, he intends to continue driving especially after Termination. This is in line with his recent work. Although he has acted on screen in projects including the 2021 quarantine heist thriller Blocked as well as the upcoming holiday movie Nutcracker and the sequel to Adam Sandler’s legacy Happy Gilmore 2His recent projects have seen him focus predominantly on his roles as a director and producer.
Although the upcoming projects he’s teased seem completely different from his unhinged work with the Termination cast, this is also in line with your creative instincts. It has already set a precedent for exploring a variety of genres outside of the comedies he is best known for. This goes back to at least 2008, when he produced the brutal horror film The ruinswhich he immediately followed up with the Oscar-nominated comedy Tropical Thunderwhich he co-wrote and produced, as well as starring as Tugg Speedman.
Our opinion on Ben Stiller’s next project
He might be too busy to go out soon
Ultimately, it remains to be seen which of these potential Ben Stiller projects will come to fruition first. While it seems likely that he intends to complete his documentary as quickly as possible because it’s the closest thing to being done, your availability on other projects could potentially be frustrated if Termination is renewed for Season 3, which is a distinct possibility if Season 2 maintains the critical and commercial success of Season 1. If that’s the case, he may choose to continue directing the series and delay his other projects even further.
Termination season two premieres on Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025.
