Disney+ reveals new anime titles including Twisted Wonderland, the Big Revival and the successor to Yuri on Ice

As 2024 comes to an end, Disney+ is announcing some impressive anime offerings for next year. In the anime community, Disney+ is often overlooked in favor of other subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Disney+ has always had mainstream offerings for anime lovers, hosting major series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach. But when it comes to exclusives and originals, Disney+ hasn’t achieved the same prestige as Netflix (Violet Evergarden, Kakegurui, Beasts) or Crunchyroll (Tower of God, TONIKAWA) with fans.

In fact, Disney+ has been producing exclusive anime for some time. They Delivered Niche Success Black Rock Shooter a follow-up in 2022 with Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Falland beloved classic Geass Code received a Disney+ exclusive film in 2024 called Code Geass: Roze of Rebellion (although the latter’s reception was lukewarm, to say the least). While anime has never been Disney+’s priority, a series of recent announcements confirm several new exclusives for the platform that could appeal to anime fans who haven’t yet tried the service.

The most exciting announcement for many would be that Twisted WonderlandThe anime will finally be released, as reported by DTimes.JP. An anime adaptation of Twisted Wonderland was first announced in October 2021, so the project has been a long time in the making. Produced by Yumeta Company and Graphinica, three seasons were announced, correlating to the game’s three manga adaptations: Heartslaybul Episode, Savanclaw episodeand Octavinela episode. The first season is scheduled to be released on October 2025.

For the uninitiated, Twisted Wonderland is a game with gacha, rhythm and action elements made by Aniplex in cooperation with Walt Disney Japan. A more pertinent point of reference might be that its concept, main setting, and character design were left in the hands of Black Butler mangaka Yana Tosobo. Disney+’s list of exciting new anime doesn’t stop there. One of Shōnen Jump’s best-selling series of all time, cat’s eyeand also set for a new anime adaptation. The series revolves around the three Kisugi sisters. Their father was a renowned art collector who disappeared during the Nazi regime, and the trio would become art thieves bent on recovering the works he had collected. The series was adapted decades ago and had a crossover with Lupine the Thirdbut this is the first modern adaptation of the classic Jump. A definitive release date has not yet been provided.

Other recently announced jobs include:

  • Medalista figure skating anime in the style Yuri on Ice!!!. A young girl who dreams of becoming a figure skater but is told she is too late to learn meets a disillusioned ice dancer who was once told the same thing – and who refuses to allow another young skater to give up on her dreams.
  • BULLET/BULLETa new anime from the director of Jujutsu Kaisen slated for summer 2025. Little has been revealed about the plot, but a trailer is available.
  • Wandançaproduced by Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics, where an insecure boy with a stutter meets a fearless dancer. He wants to have her trust and joins the Dance Club to be with her.

While it still doesn’t offer the vast selection of many other services, Disney+ is clearly working on its anime catalog, and 2025 is projected to be a bright year for the service – as well as an opportunity to clean up its reputation among anime fans.
