Dragon Ball Daima Reveals Supreme Kai’s Origins (And It’s Seriously Weird)

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #6Dragon Ball Daima has been exploring many new corners of the franchise’s lore, and Supreme Kai himself was the subject of the latest reveal, revealing his origins. However, the answer to where Kai came from is a little stranger than one might expect.

The Supreme Kai, Shin, is a divine being who watches over Universe 7, and each universe has its own Supreme Kai to take care of its day-to-day affairs. He first appeared during the Buu Saga, concerned about the danger Majin Buu posed to the universe (and rightly so). Since then, Supreme Kai has become quite a significant character, and his importance has only grown with his starring role in Dragon Ball Daima. Daima had already revealed that Supreme Kai was just a member of his race, which apparently originated in the Demon Realm.

The Supreme Kai’s species come from trees

Glind have an unusual method of reproduction

The Supreme Kai comes from a race native to the Second Demon World known as the Glind. While flying in the plane, Panzy asks the Supreme Kai if it is true that Glind grow from trees, which he confirms. He explains for Goku’s benefit that Glind are born from a handful of special trees on very rare occasions, every hundred years or so.. He further states that since Degesu came from the same tree as him, they are technically considered brothers, despite Glind having no actual male or female sex.

Some of this information has been stated by Toriyama in interviews in the past, but it’s still excellent to have the lore surrounding the Supreme Kai made canon in the anime. Since Goku’s journey will take him and his traveling companions to every world in the Demon Realm, it seems inevitable that the group will head to the Second Demon World and give Goku the chance to see these Glind trees with his own eyes. One can’t help but wonder if Supreme Kai might feel a little nostalgic for their old home, which could very well come to the surface when they visit.

A baby Glind is plucked from a tree and held by an older Glind.

Of course, there are still many more questions surrounding the Supreme Kai. How exactly did Shin become Supreme Kai in the first place? Was there some sort of selection process or was he somehow destined to become a Kai? It is indicated that most of the Glind left the Demon Realm long ago, but some, such as Degesu and Arinsu, remained behind due to conflicts with their fellow Glind. Did the Glind bring their trees with them when they left?

The lore surrounding Glind and the Demon Realm in general has been fascinating, and it’s certainly amusing that one of the most godly beings in Universe 7 is from a tree in the Demon Realm. Dragon Ball Daima It will no doubt continue to reveal important information about Glind and the Supreme Kai’s past as it becomes relevant, offering a treasure trove of new stories for dedicated fans.
