Sorry, Zatanna, but John Constantine has his sights set on another member of the Justice League.
Was John genuinely flirting with Black Canary or was he just being a jerk?
In the scene between Constantine and Black Canary, Dinah seeks answers from John about rumors of a child conceived by vampires. John shares some of the rumors, but ultimately dismisses them, declaring that the child is not real. Dina presses him, asking him to consider the possibility that the child might actually exist. Frustrated by his failed magic and drunk, John snaps, telling Dinah to stop chasing rumors and starting fights. “with that idiot with the bow” and start really helping people like him. Rightfully offended Dina rushes away with determination “#@&* you, John Constantine” to which he replies, “I would love that.”
John’s comment that he would like to sleep with Dina is probably another attempt to make her angry. However, emphasis on “Love” hints that even though he used the comment to push her buttons, he would actually be more than willing to follow through if given the chance.– regardless of her relationship with Oliver Queen. This behavior is typical of Constantine, who thrives in morally gray areas and is not shy about making inappropriate advances. However, no matter how obvious his interest, this so-called “romance” will inevitably remain one-sided, especially since Dinah looks like she’s ready to feed him to the vampires.

While Dinah is unlikely to be John’s true match, their interaction raises an important point: DC should make an effort to diversify Constantine’s dating pool. While the romance in John’s stories usually revolves around Zatanna, who is a fantastic choice, it would have been nice to see him explore a relationship with someone else, especially another male character given Constantine’s bisexuality. Despite numerous references to his bisexuality since its introduction in Hell Blazer #51 in 1992 by John Smith DC had yet to give him a serious romance with a man.
