Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of great characters that the party can meet and help throughout the epic fantasy story. One who plays an important role in all three acts is Rolan, a Tuffling wizard who initially comes off as very arrogant and unlikeable. However, if he is kept alive over BG3Rolan can become a valuable ally and help to overcome the “Leave no one behind“Achievement.
There are several different ways Rolan can die, but with careful planning, it can be easier to keep him around until the end of Baldur’s Gate 3. Rolan appears in every act of the story and Must be found and talked to Each time to progress his unmarked personal search. As his story unfolds, Rolan slowly begins to change from the self-centered young Tefling the party first encounters.
Where to find Rolan in the Druid Grove (Act 1)
Convince the tiefling to stay
Rolan is first met in Act 1 with his siblings, Kal and Leia, in Druid Grove and can be found just a little further down from Arron the Trader. Rolan and Leia will be in the middle of an argument about whether they should stay and help their fellow Tiefling refugees, with Kal unsuccessfully trying to mediate.

Then you can talk to Rolan, and he will explain that he is in such a hurry to get to Baldur’s Gate because he will become the apprentice of the famous wizard Loroakan. If Gale is at the party, he has some interesting dialogue that casts doubt on Rolan’s version of his new mentor.
At the end of Act 1, with the goblins defeated, Rolan will be at the party with the rest of the Tiefling refugees entertaining his siblings with a magic show.
Where to Find Rolan in Last Light In (Act 2)
Do not trigger a deadly fight
As the party enters the last light in Act 2, Rolan can be found at the back of the bar Drown his troubles. Talking to Alfira or Cerys will reveal that the refugees were attacked by absolute cultists and that Rolan helped protect the children, but that his siblings were taken. Rolan will not be happy to see the party again and blames them for making Leia and Kal feel like they can take on the cultists.
There are no dialogue options here that will calm him down, so it’s best to just resist the urge to be rude to him.
Talking to Isobel before leaving Last Light Inn will trigger an attack where she and several other critical NPCs can die. This is the first place in Act 2 that Roland can be lost, and The best option is simply not to talk to Isobel. This will prevent the attack from triggering and overall make Act 2 much easier as you attempt to save everyone in the inn.
Where to find Rolan Under Attack in Shadow-Cursed Lands (Act 2)
Save the tiefling from living shadows
After speaking with the party, Rolan will go off on his own to rescue Kal and Leia from Moonrise Towers. If he is not found, or if the siblings are rescued before talking to Rolan in the inn, then Rolan will die. Rolan needs to be found before going to Moonrise Towers And before the party took two long rests after talking with him.

Rolan can be found at the southern end of the Ruined Battlefield, close to the bridge leading to the Reithwin Tollhouse (X: -54, Y: -111). When the party arrives, Rolan will be attacked by several shadows, and it’s important to act quickly before he takes too much damage. The best tactic is to Get within melee range as quickly as possible to ensure the shadows focus on the party Rather than Roland.
If Rolan is hurt during the fight with Marcus in the last light inside, he will not have healed, and he may die immediately. If this happens, Shadowheart or another healing character focus on keeping Rolan at bay.
There are typically only two shadows, but without the party’s help, Rolan will die. The shadows are vulnerable to radiant damage and are only visible in lightSo these The blood of Latander
weapon in BG3 is a fantastic choice here. Once Rolan is safe, he will still be grumpy but will go back to last light inside under his own steam.
It’s best to go to Rolan’s place right after the quest to get the Moonlantern item to get rid of the shadow curse. Once Rolan is safe, the rest of the map and Act 2 quests can be completed without worry.
Where to find Rolan in Sorcerous Sundries (Act 3)
Save a student from an abusive master
Finally, Rolan can be met again in act 3 in Baldur’s Gate itself and has become Lorroakan’s apprentice. However, when the party finds Rolan mans the desk at Sorcerous SundriesIt will be immediately obvious that something is not right. Rolan will have visible bruises on his face and if the party passes an Insight check, any suspicions that Lorroacan is an abusive master will be confirmed.
If the party brings lady Aylin and confronts Lorroacan then Rolan will be afraid that the Nightsong is human. If Leia and Kal are rescued from Moonrise Towers in Act 2, Rolan will side with the party against Lorroakan. However, if they are killed, he will fight alongside Lorroacan and your party will be forced to kill Rolan.
The best outcome is for Rolan to join the party, and he will take Lorroakan’s place as the owner of Ramazith’s Tower. This overall is better for the city, as Lorroacan was a power-hungry rogue, and doesn’t change the ally buff for the final battle of Baldur’s Gate 3. Rolan will also allow the party to take what they wish from the tower before transporting Leia and Kal to their new home.
Rewards for saving Rolan
Loot the areas from which you save him
When you finally manage to save Rolan in Act 3, the biggest reward is his help in the finale “Choose Your Allies” mission before the end of the game. But, you can Loot the areas where you find him in Acts 2 and 3 For rare items you wouldn’t find anywhere else. For example, there’s great loot you can find in the Ruined Battlefield area where you rescue Rolan from the Shadows, including:
This is only a small fraction of what you can find, because Lorroakan’s Tower is also filled with an extraordinary amount of magical items to collect. If Rolan becomes the new owner of the Sorcerous Sundries, you can expect him to look upon your party with favor when purchasing items like spell scrolls, staffs, etc. The spell-casting members of your group can capture or purchase powerful gear. For future challenges in Act 3.
Rolan acts like any other merchant once you have managed to save him in Baldur’s Gate 3. This means that your character’s charisma and general relationship with Rolan will affect how much things will cost.
Some of the best items you can buy from Rolan at Sorcerous Sundries are:
All of these items are incredibly rare and powerful, allowing you to grow much stronger for the battles ahead. If your party is looking to challenge the House of Hope, disable the Steel Watch, or do other dangerous activities in Act 3, you’ll want to rescue Rolan in Baludr’s Gate 3 To make the trend easier to get.
