Yanagi, Section 6’s fearless second-in-command, has joined Without Zen Zero Zonemaking it crucial to understand your best build and budget alternatives. Yanagi is a character from the Electrical Anomaly, which benefits her on two fronts. The first is that Anomaly units have taken over the role of the primary option for dealing damage, although Attack units can still function properly. Secondly, his only competition was Grace Howard and her better builds, which, while a popular choice, couldn’t achieve the same levels of damage.
Yanagi’s kit may initially seem confusing, but it simplifies with experience. His fast attacking play style revolves around his two stances: Jougen, which increases electrical damage, and Kagen, which increases penetration rate. She switches these stances using her normal Special Attack, but the buff from the previous stances will last eight seconds. Her main rotation occurs when she uses her EX Special Attack to enter an exceptional Shinranbanshou state that allows her to bypass her basic physical attacks, maximize electrical damage, and deal extra disorder damage with her Polarity Disorder passive.
Best W engine for Yanagi
A horde of good alternatives
Yanagi’s best W-Engine in ZZZ will be your Timeweaver subscription. This option gives Yanagi a passive increase in her Anomaly Accumulation Rate and Anomaly Proficiency whenever any variant of her special attack hits an enemy. Along with this, if Yanagi is built to have 375 Anomaly Proficiency or higher, she will receive a damage buff for any Disorder damage. This option makes her great for any damage style, as she can trigger solo Elemental Mayhem, but will appear more frequently in multi-element teams.
The next best option is a tie between A-Rank Electric Lip Gloss and Grace’s signature Fusion Compiler.. The first will give two considerable damage boosts, while the Fusion Compiler will give an attack bonus and an anomaly proficiency boost. So the choice between the two comes down to how often players want to activate Mayhem.
The best free-to-play option for Yanagi is Weeping Gemini. This is primarily used as a stat boost, while also providing a large portion of Anomaly Proficiency with maximum stack. However, Since this W-Engine can be made in-game, it is easier to reach S5 to get the maximum bonus.
Best drive disks for Yanagi
Disorder or pure electricity
Given Yanagi’s flexibility when it comes to dealing damage, there are two main sets of disk units in the ZZZ she can capitalize. The first is Chaos Jazz, giving +30 Anomaly proficiency for two pieces, while increasing Fire and Electric damage by 15% and an off-field damage increase for four pieces.. This is the safest set-up for Yanagi in two-man teams due to the lack of restrictions, but also due to her current top pairing with Burnice.
The other set, better for Mono Electric teams, is Thunder Metal. This will give a 10% increase in Lightning Damage by two pieces and a 28% Attack bonus if the target is Shocked.. This option is more difficult to use as, although Yanagi can work on Mono Electric, she is more suited to Disorder teams. However, using it as a two-piece bonus for a full Chaos Jazz can work well.
Other options for the extra two-piece bonus for Yanagi are numerous. The most common is Freedom Blues due to the extra Anomaly Proficiency for more damage and better overall stats. The other options would be Puffer Electro for extra Pen Ratio or Hormone Punk for 10% more Attack.

For statistics, Dial 4 should be Anomaly Proficiency, Dial 5 should be Lightning Damage, and then the attack percentage for Dial 6. These three options maximize your overall damage, while ensuring that there is no cap so excessive that it generates marginal returns. The best substats in Discs include Anomaly Proficiency, Attack Percentage, and Penetration.
Best teams for Yanagi
A good start and a promising future
Yanagi’s best team is now paired with Burnice and any top tier support units that can cause mayhem with them. The best options are Caesar’s crowd control build, or Seth for a pseudo-stun unit, or Piper for general team buffs. This team works well for Yanagi, as Burnice doesn’t need much time on the field to activate her Anomaly and does most of her damage off the field. This allows Yanagi to spam your rotations for increased Anomaly uptime and frequent Mayhem outbreaks.
Mono Electric Yanagi teams can include any combination of Grace, Anby, Seth, or Rina. All of these characters except Grace won’t require much field time and will give Yanagi the time she needs to work. This option is also much easier for free-to-play players or to spread their characters across multiple teams. The specific Bangboo will depend on the team, but Red Moccus, Electroboo or Plugboo are the best choices.
A possible team for the future is to combine Yanagi with Miyabi and their double elements in ZZZ. Early predictions seem to indicate that Yanagi and Miyabi will work well together as they both want to activate Mayhem frequently because of the built-in high burst damage and to allow Miyabi to gain huge attack buffs.. The only tricky part with this team is that both will likely need to split field time, so it won’t be as simple as setting up an anomaly with one character and then letting Yanagi dominate the field.
Overall, Yanagi continues the Anomaly units’ recent dominance and perfectly shows why they can be so effective. She is a simple build with multiple team options that can be adjusted to suit a specific play style. She can work better when she can control how long she stays active, but the drop is not very significant if she divides her time appropriately. While these options may change with future releases, this is how to build the Yanagi Superior Anomaly Unit in Zenless Zero Zone.
