The Penguin has already become perhaps the most beloved DC Universe series of all time, and many now wonder how the events of the series will affect future ones. Batman – Part II. The introduction of some incredible new characters, most notably Giant Sofia, and the addition of new depth to Oz have contributed to the creation of a compelling series. With many dark events and a remarkable rise for the titular villain, it remains to be seen how the events of the series will influence the story of Batman – Part II and the larger universe.
Lauren LeFranc, creator of The Penguinrecently spoke with Empire Magazinewhere she provided some insight into the future. She first addressed Batman’s absence from the series, noting that the hero couldn’t be everywhere all the time, explaining: “Just because we don’t see Batman in our series doesn’t mean he’s unaware or unresponsive.” This means that the events of the show may not be on Batman’s radar, but the consequences of those events likely will be.
LeFranc continued, noting how the series serves as a bridge between Batman and its upcoming sequel. Referring to the final scene of the series, where a bat signal can be seen in the sky from the Penguin’s penthouse, LeFranc explained that the connection between the Penguin and Batman will continue in the next film: “Then don’t worry. The bat and the bird will clash again.”

LeFranc’s comments give a much better idea of how The Penguin it was conceptualized as a parallel story within the larger universe. While Penguin was introduced in Batmanthe recent series wasn’t about telling more Batman stories, but rather fleshing out the character of Oz Cobb. Although Batman’s shadow loomed large over the story, it wasn’t important for him to appear in the series and could have distracted from the Oz narrative. An appearance would have been fun, but ended up being unnecessary.
Fortunately, it appears that more direct conflicts between Oz and Batman were planned from the beginning. LeFranc’s comments suggest how important Oz is to the future of this universe, and that he will certainly play a role in the next film. Whether or not the final conflict between him and Batman occurs in the upcoming sequel, or later in the saga, it seems like there’s a bigger plan at work for it. Batman universe. With so many complex characters to develop, The Penguin did a great job establishing a model for the future of the universe.
LeFranc and Reeves have proven themselves worthy of the public’s trust
The Penguin and its perfect episodes created an incredible show. From here, I feel good about whatever the architects of this universe want to do with it. Oz Cobb is clearly a strong, compelling villain who stands on his own, and while I’d love to see him defeated by Batman, I’d also be happy to watch a Penguin season 2. With stories so compelling, The Penguin created a truly compelling and terrifying villain. Whatever they decide to do with him next, when he appears in Batman – Part II It will almost certainly be the right choice.
The Batman Part II is the sequel to Matt Reeve’s The Batman, released in 2022, and will pick up where the original film left off. The film shares a universe with HBO Max’s original Penguin series and sees the return of the Riddler and a different incarnation of the Joker.
