For any 80s or 90s kid who flipped channels as a child, they were likely glued to one Powerpuff Girls or ThunderCats marathon. Both shows have an iconic place in history, to the point that both have now found new life in the ongoing comic book sequels.
Nostalgia unites the two forces, as Free Comic Book Day 2025: ThunderCats / The Powerpuff Girls #0 by Paulina Ganucheau, Coleman Engle and Jeff Eckleberry will hit participating stores on Free Comic Book Day, which is May 3, 2025, courtesy of Dynamite Entertainment. Ganucheau, writer and cover artist for the FCBD edition, is also the writer of Dynamite’s series The Powerpuff Girls title in progress.

Dynamite comics injected new life into Powerpuff Girls and ThunderCats franchises, producing story continuations through recent comic book releases. THE ThunderCats comics have been breaking records, while Powerpuff Girls the comics have already fixed the original TV show. Now, the two superpowers of the cartoon industry are joining forces through a crossover between the two series. It’s the crossover that no one knew was possible, and no one knew how much they needed it until now.
Many elements could make this new Free Comic Book Day story interesting, namely the fact that the Powerpuff Girls will be powerless when they land in ThunderCats territory. This puts the two teams on equal terms, but also puts the trio on a journey to show their abilities as heroes, in addition to having superpowers. Having no fingers used to be the girls’ biggest obstacle, but having to fight enemies like Mumm-Ra may be their biggest challenge yet.

Despite sharing the same network, the Powerpuff Girls meeting the ThunderCats never seemed conceivable, which is why such a crossover never occurred to a child’s mind while watching in the 80s, 90s or even the 2000s. They were in two completely different universes. , with different animation styles, so even kids knew this crossover could never happen. However, comics change the game once again.
