New promotional material for DC’s The penguin Includes major reveals about Matt Reeves The Batman Universe. HBO’s upcoming The penguin Series is set to expand on The Batmans lore, with Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot gaining power in Gotham’s criminal underworld after Carmine Falcone’s death. While The Penguin isn’t expected to feature other major DC characters like Batman and his rogues gallery, the series will likely set the stage for Matt Reeves’ upcoming events The Batman – Part IIwhich will introduce a new take on an as-yet-unconfirmed DC villain.
On September 10, 2024, Gotham City newspapers were distributed in Manhattan. The fictitious newspapers deal with the events of The Batmans ending and their aftermath. For example, it reveals that escape rooms inspired by the Riddler’s attack on Gotham and the subsequent flood have popped up across the city. It also confirms that Carmine Falcone’s son Alberto has returned to Gotham. Al Falcone previously appeared in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, where his plan to blow up Gotham was thwarted by Ben Affleck’s Batman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Apart from the two parts of information, The penguins merchandise features four other key reveals.
The Penguin could introduce Batman’s version of Harvey Dent
The Penguin merchandise hints at Harvey Dent as Gotham’s new district attorney
The first news story in The penguins fictional paper details the comments of the new Gotham District Attorney on crime and the justice system. The news piece begins with the sentence “Is our legal system dented beyond repair?” And further to explain it “… both sides of the court don’t always agree“ On how to classify crimes such as property theft. The words “pressed” And “both sides” May be hinting at Harvey DenH, who becomes the Batman villain Two-Phase in the comics. The newspaper also has a drawing of the district attorney, which depicts him as a young white man.
Maybe Joker: Folie a Deuxs Harvey Dent will remain a regular character, meanwhile The penguinS Dent would eventually transform into the iconic comic book villain
Harvey Dent is a perfect candidate for a primary or secondary antagonist in The penguin, The Batman – Part IIAnd The Batman – Part IIIHow he can resist criminals like the Penguin and vigilantes like Batman. The fact that Harry Lawtey plays Harvey Dent Joker: Folie a Deux would suggest that Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe would avoid using the same characters, but it seems like a new version of Harvey Dent is still a possibility. Maybe Joker: Folie a Deuxs Harvey Dent will remain a regular character, meanwhile The penguinS Dent would eventually transform into the iconic comic book villain.
Blackgate Riots teases an Arkham-like Batman sequel
Blackgate and Arkham may be approaching breakouts in the upcoming Batman sequels
The second news in The penguins paper is titled “Husband in Blackgate?”. It covers prisoner riots at Blackgate Penitentiary, caused by bribes to prison staff, contraband weapons, and conflicts instigated by the Riddler’s negative influence on criminals. Allegedly, many guards are “Willing to give prisoners what they want for the right price”. While it seems the situation is under control, Riots across Gotham are likely to culminate in prison breakouts, not only at Blackgate but also in Arkham CityWhich is where the Riddler and the Joker are incarcerated. In fact, a prison break plan could be what the Joker is trying to accomplish with the help of the Riddler.

Batman missing from the public eye may prompt a few comic book stories
Batman can already deal with his next antagonists before the Batman – Part II
totally new, The penguins newspaper included a cartoon that featured James Gordon being told by a police officer that “It’s been weeks” As they stand near the bat-signal. It seems Batman has been gone for several weeks, and the Dark Knight is unable or unwilling to inform Gordon of his whereabouts.. The cartoon also shows graffiti with the words “revenge” And “No More Lies”suggesting that Gotham City residents were inspired by both Batman and the Riddler’s actions, as Batman’s catchphrase was “revenge” And the Riddler left clues with “No More Lies” written on them.
Batman’s lack hints at a live-action adaptation of one or more specific comic book storylines. for example, Batman Rip Follows Batman as he gets his life back after an attack by the Black Glove organization, who drug him and kidnap him, leading to an identity crisis. in Batman: No Man’s LandBatman leaves Gotham to help rebuild the city from the outside, while various Gotham villains take over their own territories. The most likely option, however, may be Batman: The Court of OwlsWhere the titular secret organization traps Batman in a labyrinth with no food until he hallucinates.
Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe officially has a Metropolis
Matt Reeves’ DC Universe isn’t limited to Gotham City anymore
The Riddler-inspired escape room news story featured in The penguins fictional paper ends with one anonymous Gotham parent complaining about the issue. The man asks the question, “Shouldn’t our children idolize role models who exemplify personal responsibility instead? That would never happen in Metropolis.” In such a short sentence, The penguin Merch reveals that Metropolis exists in Matt Reeves’ The Batman UniverseBut whether this version of Metropolis has a Superman is yet to be seen. Considered grounded The Batman Yes, it was as if the franchise was going to take The Dark Knights route and leave all other DC cities and characters.

Set footage for The Batman Shown background actors dressed as Superman and Wonder Woman, apparently for a Halloween event. The scenes have been deleted, and few know about their purpose. However, their existence suggests that Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe is going to include more DC characters one way or another. It is possible that characters like Superman and Wonder Woman exist in The Batmans DC continuity as fictional characters, or that they are still urban myths while fighting crime in secret.
