Prometheus’ David became an android messiah after Alien: Covenant

Nothing but mystery has surrounded Prometheus‘David since the end of Alien: CovenantAs his story was never finished, and it doesn’t look like it ever will be. At least, not in the movies. Luckily, one Alien Comic series indicates that David not only survived long after his final movie appearance… but that he became an Android Messiah.

David made his debut in Prometheus As one of the earliest models of synthetics created by Weyland Corp, accompanying the crew of the Prometheus to LV-223 in search of an alien species referred to as the Engineers. While they discovered one surviving member of the species, the real prize was a substance known as ‘black goo.’ The Black Goo mutagen will cause a living being to mutate into a zombie-like creature after a drop, while clouds of it can wipe out entire civilizations in an instant. Believing that the Black Goo can be manipulated to not only mutate life, but to create life, David hijacks the Covenant (along with Xenomorph embryos) and takes off into space. Now, fans finally know what he did next.

David makes the events of the original alien possible

in Alien #6 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Julius Ohta, the two surviving members of Steel Team (a spec-ops team of synthetic soldiers) have survived their mission on Tobler-9, and are on their way home. While in the spaceship flying away from the xenomorph-infested planet, one of the synthetics who sustained some serious injuries is talking to the others, who were relatively unharmed after their epic battle against the deadly xenomorphs.

The wounded android asks the other if she ever gets into their philosophy archives, saying that David’s teachings are there, and that their experience on Tobler-9 reminded him of something David said that was recorded in those archives. . And the first excerpt from the word of David is perfectly aligned with David’s beliefs, as revealed in the Alien Prequels.

This issue seems to imply that after David hijacked the covenant, he became a philosopher, and even a religious leader for synthetics. David reaffirms the significance of a synthetic existence, something human society neglects, and it seems that his word is well regarded across the galaxy, with even members of the Steel Team looking to David’s teachings in times of need.

David survived the foreign trials and became a philosopher

This Alien Issue implies that David has become not only a philosopher who delves into the complexities of the synthetic condition in terms of sentience and free will, but he is also something of a Christ to them. There is even a comic in this very storyline comparing David to Jesus Christ himself. So, the question arises: How did David go from hijacking a colony ship and presumably sacrificing everyone on board to his xenomorphs, to being something of an android messiah? Well, the answer can be found in the original Alien Film.

in AlienWeyland-Yutani was willing to sacrifice the crew of the Nostromo to get their hands on a xenomorph, and they were so prepared for this unethical mission that the company implanted a synthetic spy, Ash, to ensure everything went well. According to plan. But how did the company know where to look for and what to look for? One word: David.

It is plausible that David had a run-in with the engineers after the events of Alien: Covenantwhich then either stole or were infected by David’s xenomorphs (note the hole in the chest of the Space Jockey in Alien), only for their ship to crash-land on LV-426. Consider further that David returned to Earth, gave his first masters information on the new alien life-form, and then spent the rest of his life as a philosopher.. Plus, it makes sense that he wouldn’t be prosecuted for his cruelty to humans given the value of his information on the xenomorphs.

Of course, David is responsible for heinous atrocities, not only crimes against nature with the creation of the xenomorph (if he did, in fact, create them and did not just reverse engineer them), but also the murder of Elizabeth Shaw, the crew and passengers of the Covenant, and seemingly the entire Engineer civilization. David will have to answer for these crimes eventually, whether he was granted amnesty or not. And, if he is still living in Alien Canon – as the theory suggests – then there will be a lot of opportunities for him.

Although it remains to be seen if David will actually ever pay for his crimes (if he is even still alive to pay for them), this theory fits perfectly with the fact that David is seemingly a prominent religious leader to synthetics in the current. Age of Alien Canon, which would not have happened if he had been given some kind of amnesty. However, more than anything else, David’s presumed legacy as a philosopher perfectly connects the events of Prometheus And Alien: Covenant with the original Alien Film.
