Mike Flanagan addressed the potential for more”The Haunting“TV programs like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor after transferring his future productions from Netflix to Prime Video. The horror creative produced the two horror miniseries as Netflix exclusives, the first adapting Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name and the second based on the novel by Henry James Turn of the screw. Despite critical praise, The Haunting Season 3 was never created, with Flanagan later leaving Netflix for Prime Video in 2023.
Now, Flanagan answered a question about more The Haunting TV Shows on Bluesky, confirming that the horror anthology series will not return. However, he confirmed that several new series are in development for Prime Video, specifying that the first of them will be a Stephen King adaptation. Carrie. Check out what Flanagan had to say below:
I’m making new series on Amazon, but they will definitely be unrelated to The Haunting – that chapter of my life is closed. But the new series are absolutely [sic] explosion so far. The first is [Stephen King]IT’S CARRIE!
What Mike Flanagan’s statement means for the haunting anthology series
If Season 3 Happens, He Won’t Be Involved
Flanagan’s statement emphasizes that he has completely abandoned his creative projects at Netflix, meaning The Haunting the series will not continue into season three under his watch. While both entries are considered some of Flanagan’s most terrifying TV shows, it appears that his dedication to new projects like Carrie are the next step in his horror career. It’s also unclear whether he could make another season if he wanted to, especially if he doesn’t retain the rights to the show following his departure from the streaming service.
Other major projects Flanagan is involved in include another entry into The Exorcist franchise, as well as its upcoming adaptation of The Dark TowerKing’s dark fantasy book series. Given how busy he is with these projects, along with hints that several Prime Video shows are also in the works, it doesn’t seem like he would have time to The Haunting third season, even if he wanted to go. Since he has moved on, the show will likely remain dormant, though it’s possible Netflix could bring in a new horror director to create a follow-up show in the future.
More to come…
