How to Beat Every Superior Dragon
The Strengths and Weaknesses of All Greater Dragons
Each High Dragon has its strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes it’s easy to guess – for example, if you’re facing a Supreme Dragon wielding icehope it is weakness is fire. However, there are other strategies you can use against each dragon as well. Mainly, it’s about observing the enemy, learning about their attacks, and observing weak points.
Seartooth Vyrantus and Corius the Icetalon
Seartooth Vyrantus is one of the first High Dragons you will meet, unlocked as part of the main story. As the Elven Gods prepare to attack Treviso and Minrathous, it’s up to you to decide which city to protect. Unfortunately, this is a choice that must be made, as it is not possible to save both cities.
Choosing to help Minrathous unlocks an encounter with Seartooth Vyrantis while protecting Treviso, which will pit you against Corius the Icetalon. Since you can only choose to protect one city, you can only choose to face a Supreme Dragon. Fortunately, no fighting is required for the Bringing Down the Sky achievement.
These two dragons are polar opposites. Seartooth is a fire-breathing dragon weakened by ice, while Corius is an ice wielder weakened by fire-type attacks. During your first encounter with Seartooth or Corius, they will eventually give in and fly away. However, you will face them again in the main quest, Fire and Ice.
Fang Cutter
Thus begins the Dragon King arc when you encounter Fangscorcher. You will receive quests from companion Taash to hunt three dragons. The first mission is to hunt the fire-breathing Fangscorcher. Fangscorcher is an aggressive enemy, so you need to be quick when facing it. Its weak points are its legs and stomach.
To begin the quest to meet Fangscorcher, go to the Lighthouse after tackling Taash’s introductory mission. Talk to her to receive the mission, Killing the Fangburner. So, it’s time to prepare for the mission and the next fight in the Deep woods in Arlathan Forest.
Kataranda, the Storm Knight
Kataranda the Stormrider is the second part of Tassh’s companion quest. You will unlock the Kataranda quest and encounter after defeating Fangscorcher. For this High Dragon, it’s best to keep to the side and unleash stagger attacks. Getting to know Kataranda takes you to a beach on the Costa Rivaini and the first lightning-wielding dragon you’ll face.
There are pieces of dry land scattered around. Try to stick to them, as water conducts electricity!
With Kataranda’s lightning attacks, you’ll want to avoid the ocean as much as possible. Stay agile and avoid all lightning bolts spitting your way.
Kaltenzahn
Kaltenzahn is the last dragon you will hunt for Taash, unlocked after defeating Kataranda. Return to the Lighthouse to unlock the Dragon King’s Lair search. Afterwards, we will return to Costa Rivain to explore the Sharksmouth Caves. Similar to Corius the Icetalon, Kaltenzahn is an ice-type dragon. Fire-type attacks will work best against him.
The Formless
The Formless One is another Electric-type dragon, but this one is more challenging than Kataranda. After all, it is a level 40 Greater Dragon. You will need to unlock the side quest Pinnacle of its kind and unlock Necropolis Halls before challenging this dragon. This also means getting Emmrich as a companion, as this will open the Pinnacle of its kind search.
In addition to using Electric-type attacks, Formless One is also a necromancer and can summon skeletons and mages. Your best action is to attack with necrotic damage.
Mythal’s Retribution
Fighting Mythal is optional and both options have different consequences. If you decide to face the lightning-based Mythal in High Dragon form, you will experience one of the coolest dragon fights and get the secret that ends in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard. If you choose peace over fighting, you will receive Achieving Clear Minds and Open Hearts. Unfortunately, you can’t have it both ways, so choose wisely.
Dragon Returned
The last High Dragon is the Revenant Dragon, a level 50 powerhouse. As one of the hardest High Dragons to fight, you will need to complete several quests to unlock the fight, starting with The Heart of Corruption. The Revenant Dragon uses Ice, Fire, and Electric attacks. Use Necrotic abilities to damage this enemy.
There it is! All eight High Dragons in Dragon Age: The Veil Guardalong with their locations and weaknesses, are presented for you to take advantage of. Whether you fight all the dragons or just the mandatory ones is up to you. However, getting the Bringing Down the Sky achievement might be enough to convince most players to kill these beasts.
