The Wendigo is a powerful creature that can take on the likes of the Hulk, but this new alteration to the beast means that Wolverine can’t just kill it like he has so many times before with variants of the creature. This new Wendigo presents a tragic dilemma for Wolverine, as he is a scared teenager who got stuck in the snow, was forced to eat his friend, and is now on the run after being falsely blamed for the murders in the desert. As Department H closes in on Wolverine and Wendigo, Wolverine quickly runs out of options.
Wolverine has the option of trying to help the Wendigo, but at the risk of the curse spreading, killing more people, or alternatively, putting the young Wendigo out of his misery, neither option is very appealing. The series puts an incredibly dark spin on Wolverine’s oldest enemy and presents Wolverine with a big problem that only he could find himself in. The young Wendigo may face his end at the hands of Wolverine, as interestingly enough, Wolverine was forced to do a similar one. morally difficult decision in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe.

In Last X-Men #41, written by Brian Michael Bendis, a young mutant’s powers manifest, causing everyone he comes into contact with to immediately catch fire, with him simply walking around the city causing hundreds of deaths. Wolverine is sent to find and assassinate the child, as his healing factor makes him the only one to get close enough to deliver the killing blow. Although the Ulitmate Universe is one of the extremes, the mainline X-Men are also no strangers to tragedy, and the young Wendigo presents a very similar situation to Wolverine.
Wolverine’s reunion with his oldest enemy will certainly test whether Logan can maintain his resolve and not cross the line into murder.
