Sauron led two devastating attacks off-screen in The Lord of the Rings and the 2026 film Gollum may finally show the extent of his evil

The Lord of the Rings is seeing a resurgence, and the next The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum the film could represent a fundamental change in the franchise. The new Gollum film will be directed by Andy Serkis and will also star him as the eponymous Gollum. Showing Gollum’s perspective, the film attempts to elaborate on some of the Lord of the Rings’ more intriguing characters. It’s quite likely that Gandalf and Sauron will appear in the film in some way, allowing him to counter Sauron’s aggressive part in the War of the Ring.

This is due to the film’s time period – it takes place between Bilbo’s birthday party and the Fellowship’s entry into Moria. The film is set to cover stories featuring both characters. Peter Jackson The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies have creatively interpreted literature’s greatest villain – Sauron, of course. Created by the master of high fantasy, JRR Tolkien, Sauron was a cruel, blackened figure with a calculating and ruthless role in war.. But Jackson’s films didn’t have time to fully show the extent of Sauron’s evil. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum gives Warner Bros. another chance at this.

Hunt For Gollum May Finally Show How Sauron Cruelly Started The Lord Of The Rings War

Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy left out important parts of the war

Peter Jackson left much of The War of the Ring out of his films; it was much more complex and had more battles than the films showed. But even Casual book readers may not be aware of how brutal and unnecessary Sauron’s war was – he attacked Mirkwood and Osgiliath on the same day, without provocation, and showing it would make him look much worse. Gollum was in Mirkwood at the time, so Gollum Hunt could show these events and start to show how evil Sauron is. This is valuable, as Sauron is somewhat sympathetic in Rings of Power.

The Hunt for Gollum May Banish Sympathy for Sauron After Rings Of Power’s Tragic Figure

Sauron from Rings Of Power is strong, but Warner Bros. can make you more despicable

Amazon Prime Video presents Sauron in a more sympathetic light than most viewers and readers are used to, and Gollum Hunt has the chance to bring this character back to his roots as the most despicable villain in the world. Sauron in The Rings of Power used his fair form in Lord of the Rings’ Second Age, deceiving others with kind words and sweet smiles. The show also depicts his suffering. Overall, the character has become more nuanced and relatable. The variety it brings LOTR is appreciated, and now Gollum Hunt can maintain this variety.

In its likelihood of showing Sauron’s forces attacking Mirkwood and Osgiliath, Gollum Hunt may address Sauron’s true military capability. The power of Sauron and Saruman was displayed in The Return of the King film, but Sauron’s vicious, two-pronged attack is a key part of the War of the Ring, only mentioned in LOTR appendices. The film may also show Sauron’s torture of Gollumwhich is another important pillar in the events of Aragorn’s hunt for Gollum. This will ensure the final banishment of sympathy for Sauron from The Lord of the Rings franchise. At least, until the next adaptation.
