Ryan Reynolds explained why a certain scene in Deadpool and Wolverine features his favorite lines he wrote for the film. Reynolds’ Deadpool films led to the actor finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in tow. Reynolds’ brand of humor is perfect for the character and is a big part of why Merc With a Mouth has become so popular. Reynolds is one of the writers of both Deadpool 2 and Deadpool and Wolverineand the actor knows what his favorite lines are from one of the best MCU films.
Talking to Variety, Ryan Reynolds revealed that a Hugh Jackman scene features his favorite lines he wrote Deadpool and Wolverine. According to the star, the scene in question is the one in which Wolverine is tough when talking to Deadpool in the car. Although his character is quite hurt by what Wolverine says, Reynolds thinks these lines are his favorite. Deadpool and Wolverine “because you see how raw, visceral and powerful the actor Hugh Jackman is.” The scene shows the emotional potential that the characters have together, and a Deadpool and Wolverine the sequel could explore more of this. Check out the full quote below:
“The thing I’m probably most proud of was Wolverine’s speech in the van where he just rips Deadpool apart. For me, it’s one of the most beautiful scenes in the film, because you see what a raw, visceral powerhouse of an actor Hugh Jackman is. But you also see the roles reversed. You see a character who’s never long-winded, who’s a Clint Eastwood archetype, suddenly going, ‘Oh yeah, man?
The actor cares about all the characters in the Marvel franchise
It’s interesting that Wolverine’s monologue is so beloved by Reynolds that these are his favorite lines written for the film. While Deadpool and Wolverine features the characters as co-protagonists, the film is part of Reynolds’ Deadpool franchise. However, the actor has no problem supporting other characters and actors, despite being the one who will play Wade Wilson. Reynolds praised many stars of Deadpool and Wolverinethe castwhich includes the actor asking for solo films for Wesley Snipes’ Blade and Channing Tatum’s Gambit.
More directly, Reynolds’ comments show how much he trusts and respects Hugh Jackman as an actor. The star has played Wolverine for 24 years, becoming synonymous with the character. Since superhero films are often overlooked at awards ceremonies, an actor who dedicated much of his career to them could be too. This is why Reynolds is so proud of the Wolverine monologue he wrote for Deadpool and Wolverineas it perfectly shows how talented the actor Jackman is beyond the action part of the work that is often most talked about.
The actor’s favorite Deadpool and Wolverine lines are perfect
Wolverine’s dialogue in the car provided one of the most impactful scenes in Deadpool and Wolverine. I think Reynolds nailed the reason for this with his comments. The scene allowed Jackman to develop his acting skills in a way he doesn’t normally get to do with Wolverine. Having someone like Deadpool, who is known for never stopping talking, go completely silent after Wolverine’s lines shows just how big of a moment it was. Hopefully Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will team up as characters again later Deadpool and Wolverine to continue this dynamic.
