The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power The third and subsequent seasons were approached by Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salk given the high viewership levels the show received in its second season. Rings of Power The second season ended with over 55 million people watching the series since new episodes were released, placing the series among the top five original series produced by Prime Video. While it’s unclear how this will impact viewer retention and minutes watched, reports indicate that the series will soon receive confirmation for a third season.
Talking to DiversitySalke expressed joy at the success Rings of Power second season, which explains that the show has been watched by 150 million people since it first launched in 2022. The head of Amazon MGM Studios also said that the series has 50 episodes planned, which they plan to continue.although this will also require many viewers to justify the show’s creation. See what Salke had to say below:
Obviously [The Rings of Power season 2 had] very different levels of marketing and all that [to Season 1]. But that being said, over 55 million people have joined since the launch of season two. And if you look at the long-term trajectory of how this company looks at an asset like this, it’s a long-term investment in this franchise. […] More than 150 million viewers watch and participate in the show. So I feel very good. I think we all do it.
[Regarding if there will be any change to Amazon’s 50-episode commitment] I don’t think so. [That] Commitment is never the driving force behind what we do. We will continue to do this show until we see that customers around the world love it and watch it to the point that it becomes a business. Obviously we need a large number of people. And there are a lot of people, so there will be no debate about whether the show will continue.
The show looks set to run for another 34 episodes
Prior to Salke’s comments regarding a possible continuation of the show, it was previously reported that Rings of Power The third season could be renewed by the end of this month. Given her positive reviews of the show, It looks like not only will it be renewed, but its original planned storyline will also come to fruition.. This means that showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will likely see the fantasy series through to the end, with Sauron’s rise through Middle-earth and the creation of the One Ring just around the corner.

What’s interesting to note is that despite reports of plans for a fifth season, Salke confirmed that there is a 50-episode plan instead. Since each season so far has consisted of eight episodes, is it possible Rings of Power season 6 will take placebringing the total number of episodes to 48, with two extras still to be accounted for. Although it’s unclear what this means for the cast Rings of Powerwho will probably be reprising their roles for another decade, given the current release schedule, it does indicate a much larger story than originally thought.
Our take on the chances of Ring of Power Season 3 renewal
The show will probably go on until the end
Because Salke has an extremely positive attitude towards the audience Rings of PowerIt looks like the series will be renewed for a third season and will also fulfill its 50-episode plan. Even though the series had a low viewer retention rate in its first season, the overall effectiveness of the second season will likely not be clear to audiences for some time. Despite this, the Amazon MGM Studios executive seems pleased with the show’s overall performance, meaning there’s a good chance it will continue for years to come as long as viewership remains stable.
