Power Rangers Just Changed Zordon’s Entire Species in Ways We Never Saw Happening

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Power Rangers Prime #1! When Zordon debuted in Power Rangers continuity, fans were not only introduced to the leader of the Power Rangers, but the entire Eltarian race. Zordon is an alien from the planet Eltar, and was even a high-ranking Guardian of Eltar, which makes him a bona fide badass outside of the Power Rangers. And more than anything, Zordon represented what the entire Eltarian race stood for: peace and heroism on a cosmic scale. But now, Power Rangers It changed Zordon’s entire species in ways fans never imagined.

In Power Rangers Prime #1 by Melissa Flores and Michael Yg, the Power Rangers were defeated by the last villains anyone would expect: the Eltarians. Decades before the events of this comic, the Eltarians come to Earth to help defend it against an invasion of deadly aliens, the Beast Brigade. The Eltarians even partnered with the Power Rangers, and together they were successful in defeating the Beast Brigade and saving the world. Unfortunately, the Eltarians had other, less than altruistic, reasons for coming to Earth.

The Eltarians quickly turned against the Power Rangers, killing them and anyone who inherited their power. With the Power Rangers out of the way, there was no one who could stop the Eltarians from taking over the world. In just a few years, the Eltarian occupation of Planet Earth resulted in a complete global takeover, as alien conquerors added Earth to their growing circle of planetary colonies.

No one thought the benevolent ‘floating head’ in Power Rangers would be evil

Zordon’s species should be cosmic heroes, not galactic conquerors

Zordon – and, by extension, his entire species – was a pillar of heroism in the Power Rangers continuity. His own actions as leader of the Power Rangers not only proved this, but also made it clear that his entire species was committed to the good of the cosmos. Just as the Power Rangers protected Earth from supernatural evils, the Eltarians also protected the cosmos from unimaginable darkness.

Now, however, the Eltarians have become the very thing they swore to fight against. Power Rangers canon. They are collecting planets, bringing them under their fascist control, and eliminating any threat to their power – including even the Power Rangers. The Eltarians no longer care about what is objectively good, they only care about their empire and will destroy everything that stands in their way, whether good or bad. And based on how fans were introduced to Zordon and his people, it’s fair to say that no one saw this coming.

The Eltarians’ villainous turn is shocking, but a Power Rangers villain proves it shouldn’t have been

Another character introduced in the early days of Power Rangers canon was Lord Zedd, a villain who stood out as the main villain of the entire series (minus Dark Spectre, of course). Although Zordon represented all that was good in Power RangersLord Zedd represented the antithesis. And, interestingly, both Zedd and Zordon are Eltarians. In fact, Zedd (when he was Zophram) trained Zordon as Guardian of Eltar. But Zophram fell into corruption in his quest for ultimate power, becoming the evil villain Lord Zedd. And now, the same thing has happened to the entire Eltarian population.

Lord Zedd’s corruption may have brought about the final corruption of the entire Eltarian species, but it is still shocking how far Zordon’s species has fallen since his birth. Power Rangers introduction. In fact, the Eltarians in Power Rangers Prime certainly put a spin on ‘Mr. 90s fans of Floating Blue Head met in the original Power Rangers series, consolidating the fact that Power Rangers It changed Zordon’s entire species in ways fans never imagined.
