After Oz Cobb’s incredible exploration of The penguin
Matt Reeves’ Batverse just set the bar higher than ever for its upcoming introduction to Joker. In 2022, Matt Reeves presented a new take on Batman’s ancient story on the outskirts of UDC
with Robert Pattinson donning the cowl and patrolling the cesspool that is Gotham City. Along with Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, several villains were introduced, with Paul Dano’s Riddler set up as the central antagonist. However, characters like Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, and Falcone were also introduced.
While these characters’ debuts were tantalizing and profound, the spin-off show The penguintook things to another level. Without Batman to control things, villains like Oz ran wild and free, reshaping Gotham’s criminal underworld, and things got incredibly dark. With Colin Farrell’s take on Oz Cobb eventually falling to the point of no returnperforming unspeakable acts, makes things more challenging for the Joker’s next introduction in Batman Part II.
The Penguin’s Villain Portrayal Sets a Higher Standard for Batman’s Joker
The Joker needs to up his game
While there are many Rogues in Gotham, Joker is on another level in terms of violence, cruelty, anarchy, and criminal behavior. In virtually every depiction of the character, he is the most hideous and terrifying person to ever appear in any setting. This makes him a tremendous rival to Batman, as it pushes the Dark Knight to the limits of his moral code, forcing him to question the ethics of keeping the Joker alive. But with Reeves’ Batverse already establishing Penguin as an absolutely despicable villain With no real moral code, it will be a challenge to make the Joker a more intimidating villain.
In the final episode of The penguin In the first season, Penguin achieves his goal of taking over Gotham and becoming the new crime boss. However, he did not achieve this goal alone. Oz stabbed people in the back, threw innocent parties, and manipulated people to get what he wanted, but all the while he trusted and trusted a young man named Victor Aguilar. But in the final episode, Penguin strangles the boymaking him one of the most despicable villains ever seen interacting with Batman on the big screen.
Batman has already created the perfect story for a truly twisted Joker
Batman’s Joker is already kind of terrifying
Now it remains to be seen how the Joker might compare to Oz, but considering where he first appeared in Batmanhe clearly has a dark past. At the end of Batman, Barry Keoghan’s Joker is seen in a cell near the Riddler at Arkham State Hospital. Then, in a deleted scene from the film that lasts about five minutes, Batman and Joker have a face-to-face encounter where Bats tries to use his brain to get information about the murders of another serial killer in Gotham. This shows that the pair have a pre-existing relationship and that the Joker has already done things to get trapped.
This version of the Joker is sinister, terrifying, and a dark reflection of the hero, with a key difference being his willingness to give in to his dark side. Matt Reeves’ Batman universe is already proving to be one of the darkest depictions of these characters ever created, so it makes sense that his version of the Joker would be grotesque and horrific on multiple levels. However, whether he can overcome the truly disturbing actions of characters like Oz Cobb in The penguin remains to be seen.
