Hulk vs. Wolverine gets horrifying response in R-rated fanart too sick for the MCU

Summary

  • Hulk vs Wolverine Fanart depicts a brutal battle where Hulk devours Wolverine’s arm in a chilling and brutal image.

  • The artwork draws inspiration from Goya’s “Saturn Devouring His Son” and showcases Hulk’s god-like power over his enemies.

  • While the gruesome cannibalistic aspect may shock fans, similar violent encounters between Hulk and Wolverine have occurred in Marvel comics.

Hulk vs Wolverine is one of the most iconic match-ups in the history of Marvel Comics. Indeed, fighting the Hulk is how Wolverine was introduced in Marvel lore, in the pages of The Incredible Hulk #180-181, and their battles have only gotten more intense since then. However, one would be hard pressed to find a more gruesome depiction of ‘Hulk vs Wolverine’ than this utterly jaw-dropping fanart, which horrifies answers to exactly how the fight would actually end (and it’s too sick for the MCU).

In an Instagram post by user Code Abdo (handle: bosslogic), the artist shares an original piece of fanart depicting the Hulk devouring what looks like Wolverine’s arm, as the X-Men heroes’ iconic tile lies on the ground behind the Green Goliath, assuredly still wrapped around Logan’s lifeless head. It is raining in the picture, with a green mist standing around the Hulk as if to convey his almost god-like power over those who would dare to challenge him.

The artwork bears some striking resemblance to the famous Fancisco Goya painting “Saturn Devouring His Sun”. Although it remains to be seen if the artist was really inspired by Goya, it is fair to say that the two artworks share a similar tone and style. However, as fascinating as the style and tone of the piece is, the truly striking part of this fanart is what is literally happening. Hulk not only beats Wolverine in a fight, but he decides to finish him off by eating him, which seems to be a sick trend with the most extreme depictions of the Hulk.

Hulk vs. Wolverine fanart isn’t the first time the Hulk has been shown as a cannibal

The Ultimates By Mark Millar and Brian Hitch

While it’s shocking to see the Hulk eat Wolverine in this fanart, it’s certainly not the first time the Hulk has been depicted as a cannibal. in The UltimatesWhen Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk for the first time in Earth-1610, he does so to give the Ultimates (which is the Ultimate Universe’s version of the Avengers) something to team up against. The storyline was reminiscent of the original Avengers #1, where Loki used the Hulk in a bid for world domination. However, in the Ultimate Universe, there was no god of mischief pulling the strings.

Hulk in the Ultimate Universe was initially much more extreme (in every sense of the word) than his Earth-616 counterpart, and this was most obviously shown when, while fighting the Ultimates, the Hulk tried to eat them. In fact, during the fight, the Hulk told both Iron Man and Captain America to their faces that he was going to eat them as soon as he finished defeating them in battle.

Thankfully, the Ultimates beat the Hulk, and he didn’t get the chance to consume their flesh, because Banner’s original plan actually paid off, and the Ultimates teamed up to stop him. However, if the fight had gone the other way, it is all-too-possible that the Ultimates would have ended up in Wolverine’s shoes as he is depicted in the fanart, with the Hulk standing over their broken corpses, feasting on their dead flesh. .

Hulk’s brutal victory over Wolverine is actually canon (ironically, minus the cannibalism)

Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk By Damon Lindelof and Leinil Francis Yu

Hulk ripping Wolverine in half at the waist.

While the cannibalism aspect of the fanart is definitely a standout, it almost distracts from the answer to who would win in a fight between Hulk and Wolverine. Hulk defeated Wolverine so completely that he began to consume his flesh upon his victory, which is a gruesome answer to the question posed that could never happen in Marvel’s more mainstream setting, like the MCU. However, something very similar happened in the Ultimate Universe, although ironically, it did not involve Hulk’s cannibalism.

in Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk #1, Wolverine is hired to track down and kill the Hulk, because the threat the Green Goliath poses to the entire world is too great to ignore. Like Hulk’s fight with the Ultimates, the story is very similar to Hulk’s first battle against Wolverine in Earth-616, although a bit more brutal. In the opening pages of the comic, the Hulk is shown literally ripping Wolverine in half at the waist, which is a horrifically violent victory for the Hulk over Wolverine – at least for the first round of the fight.

The fight between Hulk and Wolverine is the closest Marvel has ever come to matching the sheer brutality of the fan, with the only drawback being that the Hulk didn’t eat Wolverine after ripping him apart. And this is somewhat ironic, because it is established in Ultimates that the Hulk is a cannibal in the Ultimates Universe, one who repeatedly expressed great interest in consuming the heroes he defeated in battle.

Marvel Comics confirms that Wolverine may not have lost the fight with Hulk in this fanart

Old Man Logan By Mark Millar and Steve McNiven

Wolverine slices his way out of the Hulk's stomach, killing him.

While the Hulk may not have wanted to eat Wolverine in the Ultimate Universe as he did in this fanart, the same cannot be said for the version of Hulk in the Old Man Logan Timeline. At the end of the storyline, when Logan was finally ready to confront Banner for the horrors he brought upon Logan and his family, the Hulk ate Wolverine in a manner not too dissimilar to what is depicted in the fanart. However, this does not mean that the Hulk is victorious.

After eating Wolverine, Logan’s healing factor kicked into the Hulk’s stomach, and his body became whole once more. Logan then rips out the Hulk from the inside, tearing through the Hulk’s green flesh with his claws, killing the Jade Giant as a result. Wolverine may have been consumed by the strongest Avenger, but in the end, he was the one who came out on top, which is a glimmer of hope for the version of Wolverine being eaten in this fanner.

Regardless of comic accuracy in regard to the Hulk’s history of cannibalism, or comparisons to other similar battles between Wolverine and the Hulk in the Marvel Comics canon, this fanart stands on its own as an extremely brutal depiction of the Hulk’s supremacy in the ‘Hulk vs Wolverine‘ scenario — one that’s decidedly far too R-rated for the MCU.
