It’s safe to say that 2024 was overall a good year for video game releases after years of development, but updates for franchises like Hollow Knight and Mass Effect hasn’t arrived yet. Releases like Dark Myth: Wukong and Star Wars: Outlaws have finally put an end to the years of anguish players may have experienced waiting for development to finish. Despite this, there are still a wide range of games whose existence has been publicized for yearsbut these titles don’t have a clear endpoint when 2024 comes to an end.
While frustrating, video game delays and long waiting periods are not surprising. It’s no secret that games are taking longer to make as development demands continue to grow, meaning that previously announced titles have had to deal with unforeseen obstacles that have impacted their path to completion. As a sequel to a hugely successful survival game, Ark 2The 2020 Game Awards announcement was certainly a highlight of the ceremony. The cinematic trailer that accompanied this announcement would certainly get fans excited to dive back into the action-survival gameplay they have come to expect. However, all signs point to players having to wait a little longer to Ark 2 to release.
Fans were greeted with another look Ark 2 during E3 2022, accompanied by a 2023 release date. That initial target was pushed back by Studio Wildcard to a late 2024 window. However, as the end of the year approaches, there are still no updates on Ark 2development progress, making its launch in late 2024 unlikely.

Marvel’s Wolverine is another title that has been missing since its initial announcement. Sony’s State of Play reveal trailer remains the only major appearance title in 3 years. At first glance, this makes sense considering Insomniac’s focus on Spider-Man 2released on PlayStation 5 in 2023.
However, recent events surrounding the game may also have affected its development. However, that’s exactly what happened with the reveal of Hollow Knight: Silksongwith a gameplay trailer showing an entirely different realm to explore alongside a host of new moves, enemies and characters to encounter.
The amount of content shown would have made it easy for fans to assume the release was relatively close. Unfortunately, that certainly wasn’t the case. Silk Cornerthe last major appearance of came in 2022when it was revealed that the game would be released as a day one title on Xbox Game Pass.

Bethesda’s initial game reveal culminated in an impressive E3 presentation in 2018, which also included the likes of Eternal DOOM and Star Field. However, unlike Bethesda’s other titles, Elder Scrolls VIThe announcement may have been a bit preemptive.
A full six years have passed with almost no word on when players can expect to dive into the new Ancient Scrolls experience. It’s truly a miracle that The Wolf Among Us 2 still exists. The initial reveal of the title in 2017 was nullified by the closure of developer Telltale Games in 2018, which meant that this project, among other titles, ceased to exist. Telltale’s subsequent revival and re-announcement The Wolf Among Us 2 in 2019 it was certainly a welcome surprise, but this saga has certainly affected the development of the next title.

It’s hard to discuss long wait times for video games without mentioning Beyond Good and Evil 2. Sixteen years after the title was first announceddeveloper Ubisoft has not yet provided any indication of when Beyond Good and Evil 2 will finally be released.
In fact, it was nine years after the game’s initial announcement before players received any updates on the title. When so much time has passed since a game’s initial announcement, there is more concern than ever about the title’s status and whether players will be able to experience what that game has to offer.
Even so, Beyond Good and Evil 2 still exists, with Ubisoft acknowledging the game’s existence earlier this year when promoting the release of Beyond Good and Evil remaster. The game also recently got a new creative director, which could help it move forward.
