Gladiator IIthe long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winner, Gladiator, breaks an international box office record for the director. The film’s world premiere took place on November 13, coinciding with its release in South Korea, Belgium and France. Some countries, including Australia, Germany, Italy and New Zealand, released the film the following day, and the United Kingdom on November 15. Gladiator II will arrive in the US on November 22nd.
With data from 63 international box office markets, Deadline reports that the first weekend saw the film debuts with around US$87 millionwhat brand biggest overseas opening for director Ridley Scott. The censored sequel to the original Gladiator is number one in major markets, with the UK enjoying the greatest commercial success. Gladiator II debuted with US$11.4 million at the box office in the United Kingdom, US$4.3 million in Germany, US$3.8 million in Italy, US$3.2 million in Korea and US$3 million in Brazil.
