According to The DesInsider (through CBR), a big reason why there haven’t been any major announcements about the upcoming live-action remake of Hercules is that the project is being reformulated. This is because it will no longer be just about Hercules, and will be told from the perspective of the villain, Hades. Furthermore, the report says that the film may end up being titled Hades instead of Hercules. If this is true, the live-action remake of Hercules could resolve Hades’ biggest plot hole in the animated film.

Hades is the brother of Zeus, uncle of Hercules and ruler of the underworld. Hades discovers that a planetary alignment will allow him to free the Titans and take control of Mount Olympus, but that’s only if Hercules doesn’t interfere. Hades sends his minions Pain and Panic to murder baby Hercules with a special potion that will strip him of his divinity and therefore his immortality, allowing them to kill him, but only if he drinks every last drop. However, Pain and Panic escape when one drop of the potion remains, so Hercules not only survives but also retains his godly strength.

As the god of the Underworld, Hades sees every soul that arrives, so he should have known that Pain and Panic failed.

Pain and Panic don’t tell Hades what happened and make him believe they killed Hercules, and Hades discovers the truth many years later. As god of the Underworld, Hades sees every soul that arrives, so he should have known that Pain and Panic failed, as baby Hercules would have died as a mortal and would have reached the Underworld. Seeing Hercules’ story now from Hades’ perspective could resolve this plot hole, showing exactly what he was doing while Pain and Panic tried to kill Hercules and why he only learned they failed a decade later.

How Hercules Live-Action Remake Could Benefit From This Hades Twist

Resolving the aforementioned plot hole isn’t the only way the Hercules The live-action remake could benefit from being told from Hades’ perspective. Due to its focus on Hercules’ journey on Earth to become a hero and regain his divinity the animated film leaves many doubts about other characters, especially Hades. The god of the underworld mentions that it was Zeus who assigned him to the underworld, and although Zeus is very good to him, Hades has a lot of resentment towards him.

The live-action remake of Hercules being told from the perspective of Hades can go a little deeper into his past with Zeusas well as his role in the Underworld and his relationship with other characters related to that realm, such as the Fates. The film could also tell more about how Hades met Megara and the deal they made, adding more layers and depth to the original film.
