10 Things to Do Before Entering Shadowfell (Nightsong Mission)

There are a few things to do before entering Shadowfell Baldur’s Gate 3 To start the Nightsong mission. Entering the area, known as Lady Shar’s Field, is a major point of no return in Act 2 of the play. As such, players should try to complete as much as they can in the available areas before heading to the Nightinger’s lair. There is much to do in the Shadow-Cursed Lands and its extensions, openly stated and hidden, so the area needs to be explored a bit if players want to expand their knowledge of what plagues the area and the history of Ketheric Thorm’s rule. .

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Although some quests are clearly shown, such as obtaining the Moonlantern, there are some secrets in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3 Which need to be solved before heading into Shadowfell. Entering Lady Shar’s domain has the potential to modify the shadow-cursed land entirely, which means that most of the secrets or side quests in Act 2 (and Act 1, for that matter) will become unavailable. This doesn’t improve the player’s progress through the main story of Larian’s turn-based RPG, but it does cut them off from some compelling stories and many possible rewards.

The Gauntlet of Shar isn’t the only Act 2 location to bear the dark goddess’ name, but the other one can easily be missed. Parties who want to explore Act 2 thoroughly should take care to check everything in Reithwin Town, and one thing that can be found there is a hidden Sharran Sanctuary that contains some rewards for those who succeed in saving throws (alternatively, just leave Shadowheart do it. The talk).

Accessing the Sharran Sanctuary requires the party to solve a simple puzzle by interacting with several plaques.. It’s not one of the most critical pieces of content in Act 2, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. The one reward there that comes with a price is the Dagger, which triggers a potentially challenging fight and can upset Shadowheart.

Visit the Mountain Pass or the Underdark

As Coyle's boat sailed past towering statues on the threshold of the Grimforge area in the Underdark.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Provides two ways to reach Act 2 from Act 1, with the party needing to take a mountain pass or travel into the Underdark. Both paths have dangers, but they also come with a lot of interesting content and valuable rewards.

luckily, Choosing one option does not mean that the other is lockedAt least not until the party enters the Shadowfell in Act 2. Before taking the jump, doubling back to check out whatever path the party didn’t take is definitely worth it. The same goes for any missed content in Act 1, but since the party is inevitably likely to miss one of the two locations during Act 1, it is the most important part of Act 1 to prioritize.

Free the Pixie in the Moonlantern

After arriving at Last Light Inn and solving a few issues in the location, players will eventually be led to set up an ambush to get an active Moonlantern. This item allows the party to get through the shadow curse Baldur’s Gate 3 and navigate the shadow-cursed lands without getting debuffed with every step. When they capture the item, either through words or violence, players will have the option to release the picks into the lantern or keep the item functional.

While the narrator says that pixies tend to be mischievous, Releasing the Pixie in the Moonlantern is the way to go. The creature will bestow a blessing on the party, allowing them to run around the shadow-cursed lands safely without having to equip the Moonlantern or stay within its radius. This, in fact, is one of the first things in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3But one that should be done to make all other tasks in the area much easier.

Deal with the Thorm family in Reithwin Town

Malus Thorm smiles in Baldur's Gate 3.

The three members of the Thorm family in Reithwin Town are all optional boss encounters but worth the time investment. Dealing with Gerringothe, Malus and Thisobald in Baldur’s Gate 3 Significantly expands the player’s knowledge of the Shadow Curse and their relationship with Ketheric Thorm. They also offer some great pieces of loot. While all of them can be defeated by sheer force, The best detail is that they can all kill themselves with the right amount of dedication.

Players may have to save scam in Baldur’s Gate 3 To ensure the desired result occurs, but it is possible. The secondary Thorm boss encounters open up many possibilities for other quests, as certain items can only be obtained if they are defeated or carefully stolen.

He concluded what was ‘searching’

The crap Necromancer He Who Is holds a spell when he talks to the party in Baldur's Gate 3

In fact, one of the items needed for another side quest, a ledger, can be found at Thisobald Thorm’s Waning Moon Distillery. The ledger was requested by a mysterious elf called He Who Was. He can be found in the eastern outskirts of the shadow-cursed lands and is completing a ritual for a penalty of life.

The side search for he who was in Baldur’s Gate 3 Is not too long or difficultBut it might be worth checking out. Depending on how players complete it, they may be rewarded with an exclusive item not available through any other means. Like all other objectives, it must be completed before entering Shadowfell, otherwise it becomes unavailable.

7

Bring Iron Hell to Dammon for Karlach

Dammon, a Tiefling, stands in front of a stone wall. He looks to his right and seems to be listening to someone with interest.

Karlach’s companion story has a major development in Act 2, and this requires players to visit Dammon at Last Light Inn with Karlach in their party. He will recognize the character’s infernal engine and offer his services to cool her off by crafting an item with General Iron. If players are pursuing a romance with Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3This is a mandatory task to complete.

By cooling your body, Karlach will be able to touch others againWhich was one of her deepest desires. Damon will also give you some bad news that may tie into the main story quests later, but it’s definitely something that shouldn’t be skipped before heading to Shadowfell.

6

Find Arabella’s parents

Another event that can be found while exploring the graveyard area around Reithwin Town is stumbling upon Arabella, in case she was saved from Kagha in Baldur’s Gate 3 During Act 1. The young tiefling will seek out her parents and players can talk to her, take the job for themselves, and redirect her to their camp.

The side quest may initially seem small, but it expands into something much larger and interesting. The outcome of the story is compelling and sets up further developments that will prove worthwhile in the long run. If players have the chance to find and help Arabella, they should definitely do so before entering Shadowfell.

5

Play with Oliver

Oliver looks angry in Baldurs Gate 3.

To the eastern part of the shadow-cursed lands in Baldur’s Gate 3Players may encounter a house full of flowers and, in it, a young boy who seems to be touched by the shadow curse. Called Oliver, he will ask them to play and players on a well-aligned game should do so. They should also do this without killing the child’s mom and dad.

After the game is over, there will be nothing else to do, but a search marker will remain on the area. This is because This seemingly meaningless task is actually connected to a larger and much more critical side quest in the game Which involves cleaning up the shadow curse altogether.

4

Help Halsin Rescue Taniel

Taniel held Halsin's arms in Baldur's Gate 3.

In The Last Light Inn, players will encounter a cursed NPC in a bed called Art Cullagh. After talking to him and his caretaker, players should return to camp Baldur’s Gate 3 and talks to Halsin about the character. They should mention that Art is mumbling about Taniel. This will trigger one of the most important side quests in Act 2 that needs to be completed right before entering Shadowfell.

Next, they need to retrieve a lute from Malus Thorm, take it back to Halsin, awaken Art, and find out more about Taniel and the Shadow Curse. Halsin will then leave to rescue Thaniel, and players will have to defend him in a dangerous survival battle with multiple rounds. If successfully completed, this will later connect to Oliver’s questlineAnd it can have a positive outcome depending on what players choose to do in Shadowfell.

3

Explore Moonrise Towers freely

The sad blood chemist Araj Oblodra smiles slyly in Balaldur's Gate 3

While players have not yet entered Shadowfell and triggered any groundbreaking events, they should head to Moonrise Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3 and explore the area. There’s plenty to do there, including interacting with certain vendors and uncovering secrets. The only recommendation is not to go into the main room where Ketheric Thorm is.

Related

Players can encounter an enigmatic vendor called Araj Oblodra Who can give players powerful potions, as well as hidden treasures. Players can also help a pack of gnolls to be mistreated. There is even a secret set in a crack in a wall that allows players to learn more about the Absolute itself and its role in the history of Baldur’s Gate 3.

2

save the tieflings (again)

The tiefling bard Alfira performs a song on her lute while Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Wyll, and a drow player character look on.

Another important piece of content to resolve in the Moonrise Towers before entering Shadowfell is rescuing the surviving Tieflings who are ambushed in the shadow-cursed lands. Although many of the poor refugees were killed in Baldur’s Gate 3Many others are imprisoned by the cult of the Absolute. They can be found in the prison in Moonrise Towers.

Extracting them can be troublesome, but it’s worth the effort, especially for well-aligned playthroughs. During the extraction, players can also help a group of gnomes escape. This can be done by force or by stealth, but the goal is to take them back to the last light inside. If the rescue is successful, players should check with the characters in Last Light for rewards.

1

Deal with the Jurgir (Orton) situation

Yurgir brandishing a crossbow in a screenshot from Baldur's Gate 3.

One of the last tasks to complete before entering Shadowfell is to deal with the situation involving Yurgir, the Orton imprisoned deep within Shar’s Gauntlet. Rafael will ask the player to deal with him and, in return, he will explain the meaning of the runes carved on Asterion’s body. There are different possible outcomes for the whole encounter, but killing him is the best option for those who want to improve their relationship with the vampire troll.

Killing or saving Yurgir in Baldur’s Gate 3 Is also likely the last piece of content available before heading into Shadowfell, as it is presented deep in Shar’s Gauntlet. If players have completed all other side quests in the Shadow-Cursed Lands and the Gauntlet itself, Yurgir is the final major decision in Act 2 before the developments involving the Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3.
