Naruto’s Haku is a complex character

Haku’s tragic backstory led to him becoming Zabuza’s ultimate weapon

The artwork beautifully captures Haku’s duality through lighting and details. On one side, Haku is unmasked and bathed in softer, lighter colors, symbolizing his gentle nature and kindness. On the other hand, reflected in the ice mirror, darker colors are used, and its reflection is blood-curdling, representing both his Ice Kekei Genkai and his Ice Kekei Genkai. The dark, tragic side of his life as a shinobi. The contrast between light and dark perfectly encapsulates the complexity of Haku’s character.

Haku grew up peacefully but became hated when his Kekei Genkii was discovered. His own father even hates him and gathered a group of people to kill Haku out of fear that those who possess Kekei Genkai abilities would only generate more violence. Haku became a son-in-law before meeting Zabuza, who makes him his weapon. Believing this was his only purpose in life now, Haku diligently served as Zabuza’s weapon, though deep down he did not want to kill or was great.

The love and loyalty that Haku has for Zabuza is finally proven when he sacrifices himself as a human shield to protect Zabuza from Kakashi’s Chidori Jutsu.

At first, Zabuza seemed unfazed about Haku’s death, but Naruto’s speech about how Haku lived for him reached his cold heart. Zabuza understood how much Haku really meant to him and acknowledged that Haku was too kind and gentle for the harsh world they lived in. Haku Never heard how Zabuza felt about him but their bond is one of the most heartbreaking and unforgettable in Naruto.
