Building a deck in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket It’s super easy with the inclusion of an automatic deck builder. This handy tool automates the deck-building process so players can jump straight into battle.
But how good is the automatic builder and can it replace a human touch? It all depends on how it is used. There is a way to use the automatic deck builder to help players, while still maintaining some control over the building process. Using the builder in this way will help players get the most out of their cards without having to make all the deck decisions.
What makes a good Pokémon TCG deck?
The key is finding the right balance
Building a deck for the mobile game is a little different than building one for the physical TCG, thanks to two main differences. First, the TCG Pocket cards are Heavily modified and simplified for a streamlined mobile game. And secondly, Energy cards are generated every turnso they don’t need to be accounted for in the deck.
At its most basic level, a good deck has one or two main strikers, several supporting strikers and a handful of manager cards. Beginners should stick to one or two Types at most, although I recommend combining any Type with Colorless because they can generally use any type of Energy. Even building a starter TCGP Decking from scratch can be intimidating, and that’s where the automatic deck builder comes in.
How does the automatic deck builder work in Pokémon TCG Pocket?
Auto-Builder will build the best deck for players
Autobuilder, as the name implies, automatically builds a deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Players can choose one or two types to focus on, and the auto-builder does the rest. The self-builder does a great job of selecting the most powerful cards for the deckalong with about five trainer and supporter cards.
Decks built by the autobuilder are usually ready to use right out of the box. The auto deck will never have a Pokémon evolution without its first form, for example. Once a deck is formed, it can also be adjusted according to the player’s preference by removing certain cards and adding others to suit their playing style.
The best way to use TCG Pocket Auto-Builder
The Auto-Builder can be directed to some extent
It is possible to target the autobuilder to some extent, using it more as a support than a replacement. The trick, I discovered, is work backwards and start with the cards you know you want to include in the final deck. To do this, I select a few final evolutions that I know I want to use, like Charizard and Arcanine. I then have the auto-builder build the rest of the deck according to my choices, automatically filling it with Fire-type Pokémon.
The same method can be used to modify the deck after it is built. For example, I wanted to add a Flareon to the deck I was building, so I removed some trainers and some support fire types and added the Flareon. So I selected Fire and Colorless for the auto-builder, and added some Eevees and a handful of other Colorless Pokémon.
It is worth noting that this doesn’t always work. The deckbuilder will replace any Pokémon he deems to be a bad choice (he wouldn’t let me keep my Skiddo in a Grass deck, perhaps because I didn’t have its evolution). It will also remove any second or third evolutions from a Pokémon if the previous ones are not available. Finally, choosing a completely different Type than the one already in the deck will replace all cards in the deck.
Despite its finicky nature, the automatic deck builder is an excellent tool for beginners in deck building. TCG who don’t feel comfortable enough to build their own deck from scratch. The automatic deck builder in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket can provide much-needed support until players feel capable of making decks without it.
