Onyx Collective’s first TV show, Reasonable doubtwas a huge hit on Hulu, and now the legal drama has opened the books for a third season. Developed for the small screen by Raamla Mohamed, Reasonable doubt follows Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi), a skilled defense attorney at a powerful Los Angeles law firm who must balance her busy professional life with her life as a newly separated single mother. A legal drama par excellence, Reasonable doubt shines because it finds a perfect blend of judicial intrigue and fascinating interpersonal conflict outside the halls of justice.

The Onyx Collective is a Disney Entertainment initiative specializing in elevating BIPOC creators and their work. Reasonable doubt is Onyx’s first attempt at an ongoing drama program, and Disney’s gamble has already proven to be a resounding success. Taking a page from previous brilliant legal dramas, Reasonable doubt is the kind of show that could be a long-lasting hit on Hulu. Although the show’s future is promising, the first step is to get a third season renewal, something Reasonable doubt landed less than a month after the season 2 finale.

It represents not only the company’s investment in diverse programming options, but also smart business, as the program has been so successful among viewers.

Hulu has another big hit on its hands, and that’s represented by the fact that they quickly renewed Reasonable doubt for a third season. Less than a month after the show’s emotional Season 2 finale, Hulu has ordered a third season of the legal drama, securing the show’s future for at least another year. This decision is smart for the platform, as it represents not only the company’s investment in different programming options, but smart business, as the program has been so successful among viewers.

Although Season 2’s 100% score in Rotten tomatoes is an incredible achievement, critical reception only goes so far when it comes to television. Critical darlings are often canceled, while shows that are universally panned are some of the longest-running shows in history. This is because viewing figures are all that really matter in the TV game, and Reasonable doubt is one of the rare programs that combines the two. This bodes well for the future of the series, which means the third season may not be the last.

Jax Can’t Find Closure After Season 2 Finale

Krystal talks while looking down in Reasonable Doubt

Although the legal drama in Reasonable doubt is one of the most powerful aspects of the Hulu original series, Jax’s family issues always take center stage. Season two ended with the lawyer receiving a more lenient sentence for his client, and justice was apparently served. However, his own life is falling apart when Lewis’s son dies as a newborn and this puts his “new normal” to the test. Unfortunately, Lewis’ problems haunt them as Lewis and Jax are being sued by Toni (Tristan Cunningham) for young Jayden’s death.

No matter what exactly happens next season, there is little doubt that the twists and turns have only just begun.

This will likely be the majority of the story in Season 3, and Jax will need to unite her two worlds to defend herself and Lewis. Inevitably, Reasonable doubt season three will likely add some new wrinkles as well, especially since Jax’s relationship was on the rocks to begin with. No matter what exactly happens next season, there is little doubt that the twists and turns have only just begun.
