Netflix finally confirmed a New cyberpunk anime is in the works, bringing back the franchise after two full years. Since then Cyberpunk: Edgerunners First published in September 2022, fans of the Cyberpunk 2077 Franchises have been asking for more and Netflix’s new project with CD Projekt Red will finally expand on the universe of Cyberpunk.
Netflix recently announced a New animation project in collaboration with CD Projekt Red set in the Cyberpunk Universe. The announcement was originally made at Netflix’s Geeked Week event along with a new teaser video. Not many details have been revealed about the project yet, but the announcement video posted to YouTube and Netflix’s other social media platforms teases “a return to Night City.”

A sequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is unlikely
Although Cyberpunk: Edgerunners It was supposed to be a limited series, it seems that its massive popularity and success have finally pushed Netflix and CD Projekt Red to expand its universe with this new animation project. Although fans have been eager for a sequel, it seems unlikely that the new project will be one, because David’s story has ended, and Studio Trigger has already stated that they have no plans to produce a sequel.

The series has received a lot of critical acclaim and a new story with fresh new characters instead of a sequel is the best way that Netflix could have taken with the franchise, because it would avoid the brilliant ending of the original series. All the same, the new anime has some big shoes to fill and only time will tell if Netflix will be able to do it Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Justice.

David Martinez (Kenichiro Ohashi) is a stressed child living in the slums of Night City in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. To survive, David becomes an egenrunner, also known as cyberpunk, and takes on mercenary jobs outside the system. Together with a group of new and veteran edge runners, David will shoot for the moon to escape the underbelly of the increasingly cyber-obsessed city. Unfortunately, the law isn’t the only group the Edgendrunners will have to contend with, as other heavily cyber-augmented humans will be an even more significant threat.
