Warning: Spoilers for Deadpool #8!Dead Pool is known for breaking the fourth wall and promoting other media that don’t seem to exist in the Marvel world. This time, however, in a voiceover describing a past moment, a Deadpool character makes reference to the beloved Oscar-winning film. Everything everywhere at the same time. Not only does this line up exactly with other Deadpool media references, but it also acknowledges Marvel’s more famous multiversal cousin – and rival.
Deadpool is officially dead in Marvel continuity, and in Dead Pool #8 by Cody Ziglar, Alexis Quasarano, Rogê Antônio, Guru-eFX and Joe Sabino, more information is provided about an important Deadpool relationship. Tracking down her father’s killer, Ellie Camacho, the newest Deadpool, comes face to face with the mutant Valentine Vuong, who has a romantic history with Wade Wilson.
Speaking through a montage of their past, she describes how much they loved each other, knowing it wouldn’t end well. The funny part comes from how it echoes the famous “laundry and taxes“phrase from the film Everything everywhere, everything once – with its own Deadpool twist, of course: “In another life, I would have really enjoyed shooting goons and mercenaries with him…”
Deadpool is the king of movie references
Deadpool and cable reference Back to the future
Deadpool has fantastic healing power, intense sword and gun skills, and is practically immortal – and yet, His most famous power is breaking the fourth wall. Often referencing current items from the era, Deadpool and his team recently became the official ambassadors for the Marvel anime.
Deadpool has shown that he is the greatest authority on multiversal stories. After all, he is the one who has the cosmic consciousness to comment on all other universes.
So it’s no surprise, as all the comics are filled with Easter eggs for fans, which the newest installment of Deadpool finally pokes fun at a film that took the world by storm. Not only did Everything everywhere at the same time sweeps the Oscars, but it’s one of the more bizarre films to receive national acclaim, especially considering it has to do with the multiverse in a distinctly comedic way. But Deadpool isn’t going to let the film’s popularity go unnoticed.
Deadpool, like Mercenário Bocado, is the spokesman for the Multiverse
Deadpool comments on everything from movies to anime
It can be argued that Everything everywhere at the same time is Marvel’s multiversal rival. The multiverse has been a major plot point in superhero comics for many years, from DC to Marvel. But it was this Oscar-winning film that brought the fun of the multiverse to an audience beyond comic book fans. The only thing Deadpool and his team can do, then, is take a quick swing at this new rival, only to make sure all fans know who is truly responsible for the stories of the multiverse.
From Deadpool’s own multiversal film to alternate reality comics like Deadpool kills the Marvel universe by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic, Deadpool has shown that he is the leading authority on multiversal stories. After all, he is the one who has the cosmic consciousness to comment on all other universes. And then, with this funny little stroke, Dead Pool gives fans a laugh while facing his multiversal rival. In this universe, at least, it looks like he wins.
