Dr. Kane (Morris Chestnut), a popular but reviled villain on The residentEnded the series somewhat unceremoniously, making some fans wonder why he had to go. Dr. Barrett Kane was a neurosurgeon hired by Red Rock Medical with the expectation that he would turn around the finances of Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Things change dramatically for D. Barrett Cain in season 4. While attempting to save a woman, Cain is hit by an ambulance and spends much of season 4 recovering from a potentially career-ending injury. At the same time, he faces a trial for his improper actions during the COVID-19 pandemic. All of this combines for a very humbling time for the selfish doctor, and he is noticeably less boastful after his trials. However, a budding relationship with Rose (Cara Ricketts) proves to be the case Perhaps living a little more selflessly has its benefits.

One idea included no tempted Billy’s son, Trevor (Miles Fowler), to pursue work in big pharma. Cain would represent a surgeon with pharma money, and the storyline would explore the dark side of big pharma. Instead of returning like Dr. Keen in The residentChestnut went on to star in the failed TV show Our kind of people As Raymond Dupont and in the successful miniseries, The Best Man: The Final Chapters Like Lance Sullivan.
