Will this happen? Everything we know

Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi series Silo returned for its second season in late 2024, but will the dystopian drama be renewed for a third season? Based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy of novels of the same name, the series follows the remaining survivors of the post-apocalypse, who live underground in a massive silo complex. The impetus for the show’s drama is a woman named Juliette (played by Rebecca Ferguson) who doesn’t accept the government’s story about the past and how humanity came to live in a silo. The first season was a success for Apple TV+, and more episodes were quickly ordered.

Season two continues the series’ trend of high tension, as Juliette finally defies those responsible in her quest to find out what really happened to humanity. Escaping the silo, Juliette finds something that will turn the entire series upside down, and she quickly becomes a folk symbol for the rest of the complex’s residents. This escalation clearly won’t be resolved in just two seasons, and there are already plans to continue the story in more seasons. However, Apple TV+ did not renew Silo for a third season yet.

Although not a confirmation in itself, it reveals that Silo is structured to continue to a natural conclusion.

Despite season 3 not yet being renewed, the latest news came in April 2024 and found star Rebecca Ferguson revealing plans for Silo season 3 and 4. Dune star is also an executive producer on the series, which makes her uniquely qualified to discuss the future. Ferguson spoke out, saying We’re now looking at greenlighting seasons 3 and 4‘, before revealing the 4th season’it would be the end. Although not a confirmation in itself, it reveals that Silo is structured to continue to a natural conclusion.

Read Ferguson’s full comments here:

I believe the show has an ending, and I know when it will be. So that’s the answer. You’ll find out when the show ends. To be honest, I don’t think it’s a secret. The books are the books. There are three books, and the three books are divided into four seasons. So I believe that unless someone at Apple moves forward, I think we are absolutely fine with saying that the first season is finished. Season 2 is filming and coming out, and now we’re looking at greenlighting seasons 3 and 4. And I think we could film them maybe together, and that would be the end of it.

The third season of Silo is not confirmed

Apple TV+ has not yet ordered more episodes

Although the writing is on the wall that Silo will probably come back for more, Apple TV+ has yet to order more episodes of the sci-fi hit. Even though the first season was a smash hit for the streamer, the delayed wait may have hurt the show’s momentum. With that in mind, Apple will likely wait until the entire second season is revealed before making any decisions about the show’s future.

On the other hand, star and producer Rebecca Ferguson’s enthusiasm for continuing the series into seasons 3 and 4 is a good sign. The star revealed that there are plans to tell the story until season 4 (which would be the finale), and this aligns with the trilogy of books that also tell a complete narrative. Even though the plans aren’t yet concrete, the fact that work is being done to complete the story is a positive step towards the show ensuring its continued future.

Silo Season 3 Cast Details

Who will return in season three?

At this stage, it is difficult to predict who will succeed Silo Season 3, as much of Season 2 has yet to be revealed. However, It’s safe to assume that many of the show’s stars will be around when the show returnsespecially since bigger things are probably looming on the horizon. The most logical return is that of Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette, and her martyr status among the remaining members of the silo community means she is a key figure in the story. Likewise, big supporting figures like David Oyelowo’s Holston and Common’s Sims are a necessity.

Every hero needs a villain, and Tim Robbins is also expected to return as the villainous Bernard, especially as his power over the community begins to wane. If the world beyond the silo continues to expand in future seasons, it also stands to reason that the show will also add a number of new names to the mix, though it’s impossible to guess who that will be at this early point.

Will order be restored to the silo?

While the books offer some structure to the series, It is difficult to predict exactly what will happen in Silo Season 3 until more details are revealed throughout Season 2. Obviously, tension is rising within the silo, and things are going to explode into a violent exchange at some point. It’s highly likely that some sort of attempted insurrection will happen in Season 2, but that won’t be the end of the story. Rebecca Ferguson’s revelation that there are plans for seasons 3 and 4 confirms this fact.

Juliette’s discoveries outside the silo will also likely change the trajectory of the series, and if she can return to the main silo, she could share that information. The most likely scenario is that Silo Season 3 will be completely different because of some major twist in Season 2, but until that moment happens, there’s no way to know exactly what the plot will be.
