A forgotten Season 4 character may reveal another reason for Cobra Kai’s huge Tori twist

One scene in Cobra Kai May provide additional justification for Tori’s decision to side with Kreese. In what was one of the biggest twists of the new season, it was revealed that after leaving Miyagi-Do’s Sekai Taikai team, Tori Nichols took up Kreese’s offer. So despite finally making peace with Sam and the others in Cobra Kai Season 5’s finale, she will be back at Kreese’s side for the upcoming Sekai Taikai tournament.

As Tory’s decision was only revealed at the end of Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1, her reasons for her actions have yet to be fully articulated on screen. Given that a significant amount of time clearly passed between the selection of the team member and the start of the tournament, there is a good chance that the show will find room for flashbacks to fill in some gaps, especially when it comes to Tori’s story. After all, Tori having a brother creates a complication when it comes to her moving to South Korea with Kreese. But with flashbacks, the show could make sense of this with the inclusion of a character who only appeared once in the series.

Tori’s aunt may have gotten custody of her brother

It has been hinted that a custody battle would begin if Tori’s mom died

Candace in Cobra Kai

It’s no secret what Tori’s priorities have been: taking care of her mother and her younger brother, Brandon. The death of Tori’s mother in Cobra Kai Has upended her life, but that doesn’t make it a way for Tori to walk away and start over somewhere fresh since she has Brandon to worry about. Because of him, what happened in Cobra Kai The ending of season 6 part 1 could not be as simple as Tori joining Kreese out of anger to Miyagi-Do. It is all but guaranteed that Brandon’s welfare is factored into her decision-makingAnd this may be where their aunt comes back into play.

Introduced in a season 4 episode as Tori’s aunt, Kandace was depicted as a rather despicable person, someone whose only interest in the family was her sister’s disability checks. Candace threatens to get involved in a potential custody battle over Brandon with Tori, bringing up the possibility of Tori’s mom dying. Candace never returned so the threat she posed was gone after that, but now that the scenario she entertained has come to pass, It’s worth wondering if Kandace really re-entered Tori’s life before the tournament. It is very possible that Candace was granted temporary custody of Brandon.

If Candace has Brandon, even if it’s a terrible outcome for Tori, it would free her to leave the country, which is naturally what it would take for her to hook up with Kreese. Apparently, she spent months in South Korea training at Kim Sun-Yung’s dojo with Kreese, Kim Da-Eun, Kwon and the others. As long as Brandon at least has someone looking out for him, Tori might be willing to be apart of him. For a while, especially if she intends to use the Sekai Taikai tournament to get him back.

Why a custody battle over Brandon could be motivating Tori

As the show made clear in season 6, the spotlight will be firmly on the male and female team captains, as they will be facing off in individual, televised matches. By the looks of things, the other fighters will only participate in the: “team events” and therefore cannot “Win” The Sekai Taikai. If Amanda and Daniel stop her from scoring a point against Sam convince Tori that Kreese is right when he said she will never be put above Sam, she may have a legitimate reason to believe that Kreese’s team is the Only shot. She has of winning the tournament she can’t do that if Sam gets the female captain position.

Because the role is really important, especially due to the recognition and benefits that can come with it. If she can win a high-profile, international martial arts tournament, she can potentially create a bright future for herself and open up new opportunities not available to her. This could reflect favorably on her if she tries to fight Kandace in court over Brandon.

Such a course would also avoid Cobra Kai repeating Tori’s villain arcs in the series. Joining Kreese to get back into Miyagi-Do wouldn’t be much different from her revenge-driven past where she was used as an antagonist. But if Cobra Kai justifies her choice with her winning possibly producing a good result, the show can see that Tori’s character journey doesn’t take a step back. If that happens, Cobra Kai could make the inevitable battle between Tori and Sam less black-and-white, so either fighter viewers can root for.

Additional reasons Tori may have for joining Kreese

Brandon’s situation may have a lot to do with why Tori would be willing to join Kreese’s Sekai Taikai team, but that alone most likely doesn’t explain her decision. Besides this and believing that only Kreis can compete for the title, there is also the matter of her relationship with the Sensis (or lack thereof). ahead of Cobra Kai Season 6’s release, there were theories that the series would build on a Chozen-Tory scene from season 5 to give her a mentor in Myagi-Do, but the series ultimately didn’t take that course, and it didn’t offer any storylines. Where she found common ground with Johnny or Daniel.

So although Tori developed bonds with her fellow students, she never had a strong connection to any of the senses or a reason to care about or respect the teachings of Miyagi-Do.

So although Tori developed bonds with her fellow students, she never had a strong connection to any of the senses or a reason to care about or respect the teachings of Miyagi-Do. If it comes to choosing between the Dojo and Cobra Key, Kreese may have the edge in this area. He, at least, has a rapport with her and clearly values her as a student. As he said himself, she is his champion, but only one of many students to Daniel, Johnny and Chosen. Not only that, but Kreese is responsible for the fighter Tori has become, and it’s hard to imagine that fact being overlooked by Tori.

Decades after the events of the Karate Kid franchise, Cobra Key shifts gears and puts viewers in the perspective of a former competitor/antagonist, Johnny Lawrence. In his 50s and down on his luck, a chance encounter with a bullied young man leads Johnny back to karate. Agreeing to help him, Johnny takes the opportunity to revive his former home, the Cobra Kai Dojo – a haven for outcast teens.
