An iconic item from Back to the future The franchise was sold at auction for almost US$100,000. The franchise began in 1985 with the film of the same name, starring Christopher Lloyd as mad scientist Doc Brown and Michael J. Fox as his teenage sidekick. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis, follows the pair accidentally trapped in the 1950s, where, in addition to finding his way home, Marty must encourage his parents to fall in love to prevent him from disappearing.
The film was a huge success, grossing US$388.8 million against its budget of US$19 million and generating a complete Back to the future trilogy. The 1989 sequel Back to the future part II saw the duo travel back in time to 2015 before returning to the 1950s to right a cataclysmic wrong. This was followed by the 1990s Back to the Future, Part IIIwhich took place primarily in an Old West town in 1885. Cumulatively, the three films – all directed by Zemeckis – grossed $964.4 million worldwide, although no further sequels have come to fruition since.

Our opinion on the Back to the Future auction
The value of the item reflects the popularity of the franchise
The fact that such a high price was paid for this piece of fantasy Back to the future speaks to how popular the trilogy has been. Although no new film in the franchise has been produced in 34 yearsremains a cornerstone of American pop culture, to the point of providing a key inspiration for the long-running animated series Rick and Morty and a stage musical was adapted from the original film playing in the West End, on Broadway and beyond.
