This Absolute Batmobile essentially resembles a fusion of a Tonka monster truck and the Batcave itself…
Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, Frank Martin and Clayton Cowles Absolute Batman #2 continues the Dark Knight’s relentless war against Black Mask and the Party Animals gang as they spread carnage and chaos across Gotham. Batman’s pursuit of Black Mask reaches a tense climax when his investigation leads him to mayoral candidate Hill’s campaign headquarters.
However, this clue quickly turns out to be a trap, forcing Batman to flee the building before it explodes. During his escape, he encounters a murderer Alfred Pennyworth, who, surprisingly, approaches in peace and asks if the Dark Knight has a vehicle nearby for his escape. Batman’s response? “You’re standing in it.”
Absolute Batman debuts its HUGE Batmobile (and it’s essentially the Batcave on Wheels)
Did you notice the Literal LADDER attached to the Batmobile???
As Batman escapes the building, he opens an elevator shaft, slides down, and falls through an elevator hatch – only to find Alfred Pennyworth already inside, waiting for him. The two are in a tense game of cat and mouse, but this time Alfred comes with critical information about Black Mask and the Party Animals. He insists they find a safe location before sharing their information and asks Batman if he has a car hidden out back. TThe Dark Knight then reveals that they are already in his “car” and that he ingeniously integrated the Batmobile into the building itself.
Before Alfred can fully process this revelation, Batman activates the Batmobile, destroying the building’s foundations and revealing a vehicle of gigantic proportions. The panel that reveals the full scale of the Batmobile – presented at SDCC this year – now has an even greater impact in context, leaving fans eager to see the schemes behind such an audacious creation. Incorporating the foundation of a skyscraper, complete with a working elevator, into the Batmobile’s design – and removing it without collapsing the entire structure – underscores the Dark Knight’s unparalleled engineering genius.
The Absolute Batmobile: a colossal machine that matches a colossal Batman
Main cover by Nick Dragotta for Absolute Batman #4 (2025)
While this Batmobile’s schematics are undoubtedly fascinating to examine, its visual design is equally impressive. The size of this Batmobile is its most distinguishing feature, made even more apparent by the surrounding police officers and their cars, which appear tiny in comparison. The Absolute Batmobile essentially resembles a fusion of a Tonka monster truck and the Batcave itself, with a closer look revealing metal stairs, platforms and even a roof. These unusual elements, combined with its enormous scale, make this Batmobile truly unlike any that have ever existed.
Also worth noting is how this Absolute Batmobile is a stunning display of the Dark Knight aesthetic, featuring an all-black color scheme with characteristic bat shapes. Its most striking design element is the huge bat-shaped plow bladewhich Batman uses to fight his way through police vehicles. Additionally, the vehicle’s roof is shaped like Batman’s chest symbol, serving as a final mark that unmistakably marks it as a Batman-specific vehicle. While this Batmobile’s full capabilities are still unknown, it’s probably safe to assume that stealth mode isn’t among them – anything this size would be nearly impossible to hide.
Batman’s Absolute Batmobile is The Dark Knight Returns’ Walk on steroids
Pictured below is Frank Miller The Dark Knight Returns’ Batmobile
While there’s no denying that the Absolute Batmobile is unlike any previous Batmobile, it shares some striking similarities with the Frank Miller vehicle The Dark Knight Returns. What makes these two Batmobiles comparable is that they are both more tanks than cars, designed to withstand an onslaught of bombs and missiles and emerge unscathed. Furthermore, both vehicles’ enormous tires and their unusually large sizes visually place them in a similar category. Both fall further into the “war machine” category than the typical sleek, speed-focused Batmobiles that Batman is known for driving.
As fans see more of the Absolute Batmobile, it will be interesting to discover all of its capabilities and whether they align with the TDKR Batmobile. The latter is famous for its front-facing weapons that fire rubber bullets, so it’s possible that the Absolute Batmobile features similar weaponry – especially given its enormous size, which suggests it packs a lot of firepower. Another potential similarity between the two could be the inclusion of a medical wingsomething that TDKR Batmobile had it. With the Absolute Batmobile’s ample size, it seems highly likely that it will include this feature as well.
