Storm will officially join the MCU in And if…? season 3, but this Mjolnir-wielding version will draw inspiration from little-known stories from Marvel Comics. Storm is one of the most notable members of Marvel Comics’ X-Men, and has always been central to the Fox team. X-Men franchise, played by Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp. Alison Sealy-Smith voices the Lady of the Elements in X-Men ’97reprising her Animated series role from the 1990s, and now she has been confirmed to return as Storm in And if…? season 3.
And if…? The first official trailer for Season 3 confirmed Storm’s debut and revealed that she would be joining Captain Carter, Kahhori, and a bird-like hero, a new character for And if…? season 3. Sealy-Smith’s iconic voice as Storm was instantly recognizable, but this version of the hero will be very different from her X-Men ’97 counterpart. Instead of manipulating all the elements, it seems like And if…? Season 3’s Storm will have similar abilities to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, presenting herself as the Goddess of Thunder.
Storm is the goddess of thunder in What If…? Season 3
Storm wields Mjolnir in What If…? Season 3 Trailer
Storm refers to herself as the Goddess of Thunder in And if…? season 3 trailer, which is not usually one of his titles or nicknames in Marvel Comics. It appears that Storm has been changed to And if…? Season 3, transforming her from a member of the X-Men to a formidable Asgardian soldier, reflecting Thor’s own title as the God of Thunder. It looks like Storm And if…? debut will see her team up with several other powerful heroinesso she’s the perfect candidate to take on the role of Goddess of Thunder.
Although generally known as the Mistress of the Elements or the Weather Witch in Marvel Comics, there is precedent for Storm becoming the Goddess of Thunder. This means her turn as an Asgardian warrior in And if…? season three isn’t too shocking and could actually be the perfect way to bring Storm one step closer to joining the live-action MCU. It’s also possible that Storm’s new Goddess of Thunder title will be based on Marvel Comics’ multiversal Goddesses of Thunder, expanding the stories of Thor and Storm simultaneously.
Storm used an Asgardian weapon in Marvel Comics
Storm had a hammer similar to Mjolnir in the comics
The closest the Earth-616 prime version of Storm came to becoming an Asgardian hero in Marvel Comics was when she wielded an Asgardian weapon in 1985. Annual X-Men #9. Stormcaster was created by Loki and given to Storm, giving the mutants god-like powers similar to Thor’s.but the use of the hammer was brief, as she soon realized that Loki was manipulating her. Storm wielded Stormcaster again years later, fighting Thor and other beings in 2011, but the hammer was ultimately destroyed. In And if…?Storm appears to be wielding Mjolnir, not Stormcaster.
Storm became the Goddess of Thunder again in 1990 And if…? (Vol. 2) #12 in Marvel Comics, in a story titled “What If… the X-Men Had Remained on Asgard?” This means that it makes even more sense for Storm to appear in And if…? Season 3 as the Goddess of Thunderas this could be taken straight from the pages of Marvel Comics. However, there is more inspiration from Marvel Comics that could inform Storm’s evolution into the Goddess of Thunder, and this could drastically change Storm and Thor’s connection.
Marvel Comics’ Goddesses of Thunder Explained
Storm is not the first goddess of thunder
Although Storm’s Thunder Goddess moniker could be taken from her Stormcaster-wielding days or the 1990s, And if…? history, it’s possible this could also be inspired by the Goddesses of Thunder from the 2013 film Thor: God of Thunder plot. These powerful Asgardian warriors ruled the alternate reality of Earth-14412 and were introduced as Thor’s own granddaughters who had traveled from the future. The Goddesses of Thunder teamed up with their grandfather to fight Gorr the God Butcher and a version of the planet-eater Galactus.
After Thor’s sacrifice in 2019 King Thor event, the Goddesses of Thunder became part of a new team of Avengers. This gave them a pivotal role in the Marvel Universe and would be a fantastic evolution for Storm in And if…? season 3. Coming into contact with people like Captain Carter, Kahhori, and the supposed Byrdie, Storm, as the Goddess of Thunder, could easily become an Avenger. This inspiration could also establish an interesting family connection between Storm and Thor that has never before been explored in live-action.
Storm as the goddess of thunder could connect her to Thor
Introducing Storm as the Goddess of Thunder in And if…? the third season could debut a version of the mutant who is actually related to Thor. Marvel Studios’ And if…? is known for making interesting tweaks to the stories of some of the MCU’s most notable heroes, so it’s very possible that Storm could be seen as a secret sibling to Thor, Loki, and Hela. This would introduce a new and exciting dynamic to And if…? which could even prevail in the MCU, although it seems more likely that Storm’s live-action story will be closer to her Marvel Comics counterpart.
