What Whiplash’s total meant at the weekend’s box office
Whiplash has stiff competition
Whiplash Was made on an estimated budget of $ 1 million. At the time of its release in 2014, the film ended up taking home around $50 million worldwide. The total represented massive returns for the fairly low-budget film, helping the movie gain enough exposure to receive Oscar nominations and boost Chazelle’s career in directing. The fact that the film can still bring in over half a million dollars in a 10th anniversary re-release is a testament to the lasting cultural impact of the film.

Whiplashs weekend box office numbers are especially impressive given the competition. This past box office weekend saw several major releases, including Transformers one And Never let goAs well as the well-reviewed body horror film The substance. While Whiplash Failing to make it into the top 10 films of the weekend, the movie was in no. 15, which is quite impressive for a re-release. It even beat out returning hits such as Twisters And Inside Out 2. Although the two titles are well into their runs, it’s still impressive to be beaten by a re-release.
Why Whiplash is worth watching in theaters
Whiplash has key sonic elements
I am thrilled to see Whiplash Doing as well in theaters as it did during its re-release, as it is a movie that deserves a theatrical viewing. As evidenced by his Oscar win for Best Sound Mixing, Whiplash is a sonic experience whose percussive beats drive the film forward, creating the main anxiety. I am not alone in saying that Whiplash is one of the best films of his decade; Whiplashs reviews amounted to a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is routinely touted as a modern classic. For these reasons, I love to see Whiplash Get the second theatrical wind.
