Black Myth: Wukong – Every boss in chapter one

Dark Myth: Wukong has established itself as one of the best games of 2024. With a labyrinthine narrative and stunning gameplay, the Game Science title follows the anthropomorphic monkey, known as the Destined, on a journey to regain his senses. Dark Myth: Wukong explores what it means to be separated from the key devices that make someone whole, especially when it comes to punishment.

The bosses inside Dark Myth: Wukong can give the title a somewhat soulful experience, with each of them requiring some attention to the fighting styles being thrown the player’s way. From bull-headed guards to more frightening wandering entities, there’s no shortage of enemies in the first chapter of Dark Myth: Wukong for players to enter into an intense love-hate relationship.

Bullguard

A blue anthropomorphic bull holding a glaive in Black Myth: Wukong.

The Bullguard is the first boss players encounter Dark Myth: Wukong after completing the prologue. This fight eases players’ mechanics while also allowing them to get used to the dodging ability. essential for surviving later bosses. This slow-moving giant wields a polearm that makes quick movements compared to the boss, so players fighting Bullguard should use this as an opportunity to perfect that dodge.

This fight is where players learn the first of Wukong Black Mythspells, the Immobilize spell. While he isn’t difficult to find or defeat, this practice prepares players for later bosses, especially some of the intense secret bosses at the end of the chapter. From here the real adventure begins.

Wandering Creature

A close-up of the Wandering Wight's head in Black Myth: Wukong.

As a sort of secret mini-boss, Wandering Wight is not listed in the journal that includes the Yaoguai and is technically a branch of a later boss, Elder Jinchi. This boss is quite difficult for players fresh from the Bullguard experiencebut with some dedication, the unmissable entity can be taken down efficiently. Having this boss patrol the starting area sets players’ expectations for what’s to come, even if it’s pretty dark.

For players who don’t want so much of a challenge at first, this boss can be easily bypassed by running through the area of the Wandering Wight’s patrols, as those long-range magic spells and devastating physical attacks can be deadly to an unsuspecting player. Sometimes the best thing to do is to run away and come back with better equipment and more experience.

Guangzhi

The Guangzhi boss fight in Black Myth Wukong

Another mini-boss, Guangzhi is a fire cyclone that presents a decent challenge for players. Spinning around the arena with his double-sided flaming spear, Guangzhi is determined not to let the Destined catch his breath during the fight. The mechanics of this fight include flaming spears thrown at the player, which are then summoned back for round two, so this is the perfect time to test out the abilities that Bullguard has introduced.

Defeating Guangzhi relies on using the Immobilize spell, so keeping this and dodging perfectly timed is an important aspect here. Dark Myth: WukongThe mini-bosses are a testament to the dedication the game wants each player to have; no punches were pulled in the production of this game.

Lingxuzi

Wolf-like boss Lingxuzi on all fours ready to attack in Black Myth: Wukong

This is the first boss fight against the Yaoguai King, and Lingxuzi comes out with a powerful punch. This Demon Wolf is introduced when he enters the arena from the rooftops of Guanyin Temple, which is located in the Forest of Wolves. Extremely agile and a little ruthless, Lingxuzi can be easily defeated as long as players are aware of their surroundings and monitor their health.as some blows can be deadly if left unattended.

This boss marks the end of the starting area, but does not throw players completely to the wolves, as Each of Lingxuzi’s attacks is telegraphed to allow for dodging. The biggest problem players may face here, however, are the small openings for counterattacks. With enough patience, the big, bad Lingxuzi is killed, allowing the Destined to move on to bigger, badder enemies.

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw is ready to jump into Black Myth Wukong

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang is a boss trap, as the area around the boss lulls players into a false sense of security. With small frog enemies and an unassuming free space within the Bamboo Grove area, Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang isn’t the hardest boss, but it brings an element of surprise This is not seen with some of the other bosses encountered in the first chapter of Dark Myth: Wukong.

Completely unarmed, Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang uses no sophisticated fire spears or elemental accoutrements, but his physical attacks are surprisingly strong for a giant toad. Dodging stomps, kicks, and the occasional slash makes this boss very easy compared to some of the other bosses found in this area.

6

Guangmou

Black Myth Wukong Guangmou main story boss in the intro scene

Not far from the giant toad, Guangmou is a poisonous enemy that uses ranged attacks and homing projectiles to force the player into heavily defensive positions. This is one of the trickiest fights so far, as teleportation and poison spitting threats put the player at a severe disadvantage for large bursts of damage.

While not technically a snake, its placement in the snake-patrolled Bamboo Grove gives it an incredibly eerie feel alongside the ghostly projectile. Be sure to use the Immobilize and Spirit attacks when defeating Guangmou in Dark Myth: Wukong gives players a cool ability to summon their own venomous snakes to terrorize enemies.

5

Nobleman dressed in white

The Whiteclad Noble is a boss that is not listed in the journal, but is as difficult as a Yaoguai King. This two-phase boss is necessary to continue the storywith elements of his attacks being echoes of previous bosses on the list, such as the spear mechanic used by Guangzhi.

With thrust attacks, wave pools, and some nasty spear techniques, Whiteclad Noble is a snake-like boss that actually transforms into a serpentine this time. This boss’s snake form is a key mechanic to watch out for, as it fully regenerates its health and adopts more slippery attacks. This test of will requires well-timed spiritual attacks and some aggressive tactics to defeat.

4

Black Wind King

The Black Wind King, a muscular boss of Black Myth Wukong in Chapter One.

The Black Wind King is the self-proclaimed King of Black Wind Mountain, and the protean Yaoguai King is not to be taken lightly. More like a prequel to Black Bear Guai later in the chapter, the wide-range spear attacks and intense elemental attacks make it difficult to get a proper combination of attacks against him without specific timings.

The Black Wind King’s aggressive boss fight involves the enemy using teleportation, but after his defeat, he leaves behind some of the Black Wind and a threat to meet him at the top of the mountain. While many wouldn’t recommend going after an aggressive self-proclaimed king, there’s nothing more to do here than to keep moving forward.

3

Guai Black Bear

Anthropomorphic black bear standing on its hind legs in front of a burning building in Black Myth: Wukong.

The final boss of the Chapter 1 story, Black Bear Guai is the second form of the Black Wind King. Now that he’s in the form of a giant bear, the slightly adorable but scary boss shouldn’t be trifled with, as his erratic movements can be difficult to predict.

Most of this fight is based on choosing well-timed strategic moves and perfect dodging in all directions, but it doesn’t end there. The second phase of the Guai Black Bear boss features intense flames and a lot of rolling, so it may take some time to perfect.

2

Elder Jinchi

Black Myth Wukong Elder Jinchi crumbling after being defeated at the end of the boss fight scene

As one of Dark Myth: WukongOf the game’s secret bosses, Elder Jinchi is an optional Yaoguai King boss that requires players to ring three bells scattered throughout the area to unlock him. They can be unlocked in any order, so players can head to Elder Jinchi after defeating the Whiteclad Noble if they have already rung the other bells near Guangmou and Guangzhi. Players should consider fighting this boss before Black Bear Guaiwhile Elder Jinchi drops the Fireproof cloak

Container, a powerful item that offers extra defense against fire-using enemies.

This fight shares similar moves as the Wandering Wight, except for an interesting new mechanic: the bronze corpses. When struck, these corpses can heal the Destined, but like a double-edged sword, they also have the ability to heal Elder Jinchi. Players should exercise the same caution when fighting Elder Jinchi as they did with the Wandering Wight, but be aware that this is one of the easier secret boss encounters compared to the later ones.

Red Loong

Although Red Loong is the Yaoguai King’s final secret of this chapter, players actually need to complete the first region of Chapter 2 to unlock the item that unlocks the Reed Loong boss fight. After purchasing the Loong Scale

players can venture to the waterfall in the Forest of Wolves and challenge the dragon boss behind it.

Red Loong may be waiting in the Chapter 1 area, but he requires skills that are only available to learn in Chapter 2. The lightning-riddled boss also scales to the Chapter 2 power level, but as long as there is enough damage. done to the vessels on his back, the Dark Myth: Wukong the boss fight is eventually achievable.
