Full house star Dave Coulier says he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Coulier played Joey Gladstone, often referred to as Uncle Joeywho was one of the main characters of the entire Full housethere are eight seasons. He later reprized the role when he joined Most complete housecast, where Joey was a recurring character. Joey’s Catchphrase “Stop it” has become synonymous with Coulier and his career in television and comedy.
Coulier shared with People what he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October after an upper respiratory infection that led to swollen lymph nodes. As the swelling continued to worsen, Coulier’s doctors ordered PET and CAT scans, along with a biopsy, with these tests revealing the diagnosis of stage 3 cancer. Two weeks after receiving the diagnosis, Coulier began chemotherapy and worked with her loved ones and close friends in the medical field to come up with a plan, especially after her bone marrow test came back negative. Read Coulier’s comments below:
Three days later, my doctors called me back and said, “We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, called B-cell, and it’s very aggressive.” I went from having a cold to having cancer, and it was pretty impressive. This was a very quick rollercoaster ride.
We all kind of put our heads together and said, ‘Okay, where are we going?’ And they had a very specific plan on how they were going to handle it. At this point, my chances of healing went from somewhat low to 90%. And so it was a great day.
Coulier also discussed the importance of a positive attitude and what that means for his loved ones, including his wife and son Luc, who will soon have his first child.
I looked at how these words affected [Melissa] and I thought, you know what, I’m going to be strong through all of this, not just for myself, but I’m going to be strong for her.
When I got the news, I was shocked, of course, because I didn’t expect it, and then reality set in and I found myself extremely calm about whatever the outcome would be. I don’t know how to explain it, but there was an inner calm to it all, and I think that’s part of what I saw go through with the women in my family. They really instilled that in me and inspired me in a way, because they were magnificent going through what they went through, and I thought, “I’m okay with that too.” I’ve had an amazing life on a journey with amazing people around me and I’m doing well. It changes perspective, for sure.
I have my good days. I have my bad days. Some days are nauseous and dizzy, and there are other days where the steroids kick in and I feel like I have a lot of energy. I actually skated yesterday with some friends here in Detroit. We just skated and threw pucks, and it was wonderful to be there doing something I love and just trying to stay focused on all the good things I have in my life.

We are saddened and shocked to learn of Coulier’s diagnosisbut they are relieved to hear of the promising steps he is taking toward recovery and the community around him.
