As a prequel to League of LegendsThe animated series has been introducing more and more playable characters in the popular video game. Although most of the show’s focus remained on ArcaneWith Season 2’s cast of characters like Vi and Jinx, as well as the people in their orbit, the series has constantly teased a number of other characters who exist in the game but are on the sidelines or in the background of Arcaneworld.
The last of these characters to silently appear in the show doesn’t appear in the flesh, but is teased to have played an important role in Zaun’s lore. A shrine to her serves as one of the locations for the conflict between Jinx and Vi, with the latter even mentioning the character’s name. Given the character’s mystical origins and his place in the overarching lore of League of Legendsits inclusion as an easter egg is an exciting development that could hint at the future direction of Arcane spin-offs after the conclusion of season 2.
Janna is teased in Act 1 of Arcane Season 2
‘I Finally Got the Name Right’ Has a Big Janna Easter Egg
THE League of Legends champion Janna is considered an important figure in the world of Arcanewith a story that directly connects her to Vi and Jinx. In Season 2, Act 1 of ArcaneJinx and Vi end up confronting each other in a sanctuary found deep within most of Zaun City. According to Jinx, the mines were the source of many myths that Vander told her and Vi in their youth. The stories revolved around Janna, a seemingly mysterious woman who rescued countless miners from the Gray.the toxic fumes created by the factories above.
Jinx describes how “a slender woman of the wind” ventured into the darkness and rescued the miners. In her honor, many sculptures and paintings of Janna can be seen in the deepest parts of Zaun, showing how long ago this happened and how monumental the effect it had. Janna does not appear in the episodebut its impact on the world of Arcane it is clear. It’s an exciting development, given that Janna appears in League of Legends and now has a more open connection to the heroes and villains of Zaun that could be explored further in the future.
Janna’s League Of Legends Story, Explained
The Storm’s Fury
Janna has always had a connection to Zaun in the tradition of League of Legendsalthough it has been adjusted over time. Initially imagined as a citizen of Zaun who discovered her magical control over the wind, modern tradition has established Janna as an ancient and mysterious figure forever. Janna is a nature spirit brought to life by the belief of the pre-Zaunites, who prayed for good luck and forgiving winds at sea. She may even have existed long before this in some form, as many similar deities were present and even active during the early days of primordial Runeterra.
Janna was part League of Legends since September 12, 2009, debuting in the game’s first year of release.
After the city of Zaun was established, Janna became a guardian spirit of the underground city, helping the Grays in need. This ably reflects his role in League of Legends game, where Janna is mainly used as a supporting character designed to help teammates with strategic shields and cyclones. His presence as an ancient figure in Zaun’s history makes sense within the context of Arcane, where his noble deeds to save Zaun’s endangered citizens have become legend. Its confirmed presence could suggest a more mystical aspect of the world outside Arcanethe story.
Janna introduces gods to the world of the arcane
Janna, being a purely mystical character, creates a much larger world
Although many of the champions that appear in League of Legends are mortal beings made dangerous through the use of technology, training, or mystical properties; some champions are treated more like deities or ascended figures within the franchise’s connected lore. This includes Janna, who was worshiped centuries before Zaun was founded before eventually being targeted by the Shuriman Empire (whose own ascended champions like Azir, Nasus, and Renekton are considered “God-Warriors” of that forgotten realm). Janna’s introduction suggests that this aspect of the tradition is consistent with the world of Arcanesuggesting that other deities also exist.
Janna’s inclusion means that other elemental forces like her could be the focus of other seasons, organizing visits to places like the northern Freljord…
This is an exciting development given the confirmation that League of Legends shows will continue to expand Runeterra even after Arcaneconclusion. Janna’s inclusion means other elemental forces like her could be the focus of other seasonsorganizing visits to places like the northern Freljord (home of Anivia, Ornn or Volibear). The series could visit settings like Ionia and introduce the Dragon Spirit that Lee Sin manifests in combat. The series could even set the stage for Kindred, a being who represents death throughout the world of Runeterra, to make an appearance in the show or a subsequent spin-off.
How Janna could expand the world of Arcane
Magic is everywhere in Runeterra, far beyond the scope of just Arcane
Most Arcane has focused on deadly characters like Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, and Ekko dealing with the dangerous potential of magical weapons. However, the potential of the Black Rose and the legends about Janna (and their validity in the overall history of the series as a whole) confirm that some beings in Runeterra are naturally ancient and mystically gifted. This could be an important way for animated shows to expand their scope, setting the stage for more overtly mystical elements, like the Torment in the Shadow Isles or the nefarious powers hidden in the Void.
Janna’s connection to the Shuriman Empire could be a compelling way to establish a connection between that lost kingdom and the more modern setting of Zaun and Piltover, and her status as a deity could help set the stage for other purely mystical characters. Janna’s taunt could even be an important step towards creating the true League of Legends, which will see champions from across Runeterra resolve their differences in direct combat. Janna existing within the established tradition of Arcane It’s an exciting development, as it could be an important way to expand Runeterra beyond Piltover and Zaun.
Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane focuses on sisters Violet and Powder (later Jinx), who end up on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and its dark underground city, whose citizens wish to break away from their oppressors. . Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell and Kevin Alejandro star in this animated adventure.
