Weaknesses, counters and shiny details

As part of the Legendary Heroes event in Pokémon GOMega Gardevoir is back in Mega Raids with its own set of weaknesses and counters to master if you want to beat it and potentially grab a shiny version. Gardevoir’s final form has been in the game before, but its high Attack stat and dual Psychic/Fairy typing mean it’s still an incredibly difficult foe to conquer.

Similar to when taking part in Mega Houndom raids, knowing Mega Gardevoir’s weaknesses and optimizing your team around them makes the boss fight much easier. If you don’t come with the right team, his set of powerful moves can wipe out the Pokemon you take into battle quite quickly. You can’t catch Gardevoir in its Mega-evolved form after winning the raid battle, but you can catch its base version to Mega-evolve itself when you get enough Mega Energy.

Mega Gardevoir Weakness in Pokemon GO

Three specific types

The symbols of Mega Gardevoir's Pokemon Go weaknesses which are Steel, Ghost and Fairy

Mega Gardevoir’s weaknesses in Pokémon GO are Attacks of steel, ghost and poison. This is because it shares the same psychic/fairy dual typing as its base form. When the Mega Raid Battles take place from September 26th to October 4th, take Pokemon with these types of attacks in their movesets to deal 160% super-effective damage.

Be sure not to take any Psychic, Dragon, or Fighting-type Pokemon into battle against Mega Gardevoir, as his Psychic and Fairy-type attacks will make quick work of them. As with most raid bosses, dual typing opens up opportunities for victory by adding more weaknesses, but it can also make them extra formidable as they can use additional types of attacks that you need to watch out for.

Best counters for Mega Gardevoir

Strong & tank-like attackers

Zacian, Metagross and Chandelure, three Mega Gardevoir counters in Pokémon GO

The best counters to use against Mega Gardevoir in Pokémon GO Are those that can use attacks targeting its weaknesses, like Zassian, Metagross, Chandelure, and Gholdengo.

The Steel, Ghost, and Poison Pokemon listed in the table below can use a mono-type moveset or a mixture of these move types to make the most of Mega Gardevoir’s vulnerabilities. They also have good stats and typing, which will allow them to resist Mega Gardevoir’s attacks and last as long as possible on the battlefield.

Some of the counters are rarer than others, but even casual Pokémon GO Players should be able to put together a suitable anti-Mega Gardevoir build by catching one of the base forms of the most common counters. For example, you can more easily catch a Litwick at night, which will help you save enough candy to evolve it into Chandelure.

I would recommend teaming up with at least five other players who are Level 30 or higher to win a Mega Gardevoir Raid in Pokemon Go. The more trainers that participate, the easier it will be.

If you don’t have any of the counters listed in the table above, don’t worry, just look through your collection for your strongest Steel, Ghost, and Poison-type Pokemon. Make sure they have attacks that match their typing so they get Same-Type Attack Boost (STAB) and head into battle with them.

Can Mega Gardevoir be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Get a special-colored variant

Shiny Mega Gardevoir on the Pokémon GO map

Mega Gardevoir can be shiny in Pokémon GOBut the chances of finding a blank are generally quite low. During the limited-time events this Mega Raid is available, like the Legendary Heroes event, you may need to take on and defeat multiple Mega Gardevoir before you can find the alternate-colored Gardevoir with a blue head. Also remember that you can only catch the base form rather than the Mega Evolution, but you can Mega-Evolve it again when you collect enough Mega Energy.

Mega Gardevoir is especially striking with the appearance of a black dress hanging over its body with the same blue head. If you can’t get a strong enough team or can’t find any players to join you to beat Mega Gardevoir, you can try To get a Shiny Gardevoir by other means, like waiting for a Ralts Community Day Classic event in the future. If you decide to take Mega Gardevoir in Pokémon GOS Raid Battles, you will be able to beat it as long as you remember its weaknesses and counter it with Ghost, Poison and Steel-type attacks.
