As they try to take on the various other dojos there, Demetri and Hawk will find themselves increasingly apart as they have different plans for the future, while Robby struggles with Tory’s decision, and both Sam and Miguel are determining their futures.

The set Cobra Kai The cast of Season 2 Part 6 sees the return of Ralph Macchio as Daniel, William Zabka as Johnny, Xolo Maridueña as Miguel, Tanner Buchanan as Robby, Mary Mouser as Sam, Jacob Bertrand as Hawk, Peyton List as Tory, Dallas Dupree Young as Kenny, Vanessa Rubio as Carmen, Martin Kove as Kreese, Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri, Yuji Okumoto as Chozen and Alicia Hannah-Kim as Kim Da-Eun. Full of stylish fights and emotional character development, the series remains as unpredictable as ever in its final episodes.

Some time before the show’s premiere, Screen speech interviewed Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List and Gianni DeCenzo to discuss Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2, Robby and Miguel’s fight at the end of Part 1, how Sam is dealing with Tory’s decision to walk away from her friends, and the high-stakes fallout of Demetri and Hawk’s friendship.

Buchanan and Maridueña were excited about Robby and Miguel’s fight in a different context

…that was the first fight where we weren’t mad at each other.

Screen Rant: Tanner and Xolo, we briefly alluded to this last time we spoke, but you guys are back fighting to see who becomes team captain. Obviously, unlike before, there isn’t necessarily hate, there are just different motivations going on. What was it like going into this sequence and having to face yourself again?

Tanner Buchanan: It was fun, every date, I feel like –

Xolo Maridueña: You don’t seem so convinced. “It was fun, I guess?” [Laughs]

Tanner Buchanan: [Laughs] It was fun. I don’t think we’ve ever had a fight where both characters weren’t so mad at each other. I know there were a lot of risks, and we both really wanted this, but this was the first fight where we weren’t mad at each other.

Xolo Maridueña: We were just trying to do well.

Tanner Buchanan: Yeah, really do well. So it was really fun to have that kind of motivation of just having fun and wanting what’s best for our characters, rather than just being mad at each other and trying to kill each other.

Xolo Maridueña: No interruptions. No friends taking each other out of the fight.

Tanner Buchanan: No cheating.

Xolo Maridueña: No cheating.

Jacob Bertrand: No balcony railings.

Xolo Maridueña: No balcony.

Tanner Buchanan: Yes, this time we stayed down.

Xolo Maridueña: This time I stayed on the ground, it was a lot of fun. I remember wrapping up and hugging Tanner, but it was still more fun than the fight – well, not even more fun, but during filming, we played some upbeat music. And Tanner said, “I don’t know what to play. [Chuckles] So I had the speaker and I played “Backstreet Freestyle” by Kendrick Lamar, and it was the most fun thing to go out to “Martin Had a Dream,” and we were about to fight. [Laughs]

Tanner Buchanan: But the funny thing is we hung out together. We don’t leave separately, we leave together.

Xolo Maridueña: Yes, as if we were both about to dance. [Chuckles]

Sam has”A lot of pain” After the Tory team change

…for Sam, it was coming from a different place now.

Mary Mouser as Sam in a fighting stance against Peyton List's Tory in the Sekai Taikai in Cobra Kai season 6, part 2

Peyton and Mary, I’d like to talk to you two next. Then we see the two of you facing off again. But obviously something very different is happening to Tory after the loss of her mother. And unlike Miguel and Robby, you two can’t finish the fight. And now, Tory is back with Cobra Kai. Will this lead to something bigger happening in Sekai Taikai between the two of you heading into part 2?

Mary Mouser: I think every time we fight each other it’s another cut deeper. It deepened that wound to the point where we didn’t necessarily know if it was possible to heal it, and all the healing we had to do in those first few episodes of connecting — which we were both very excited about — was a new challenge. Trying to play with friends was a new challenge for us. So, I thought that having tension again would be more natural, but after having that closeness it became even more difficult for me to face as an actor. So I felt like, for Sam, it was coming from a different place now. I think origin is very important. I think what happened before was that it was easy to put a villainous face on Tory because she was a scapegoat for Sam. But knowing Tory as a three-dimensional person, the next time they meet, it will be very painful.

Demetri & Hawk’s Fallout Is Generating Some Heavy Consequences

Almost the height of a balcony.

Gianni and Jacob, I’d like to talk to you next. You two also have problems entering Sekai Taikai, as you are diverging as friends. But also, Hawk retroactively gets the position on the team after initially losing to Demetri. So what can we expect from you two in part 2, now that you have different ideas about how you made the team?

Jacob Bertrand: Well, I’ll tell you what: Demetri can’t stop babbling about MIT. [Chuckles]

Gianni DeCenzo: Dude, he doesn’t. It’s really strange. [Laughs] It’s really weird to say, “Screw you, I’m going to Barcelona,” and then you’re there too. [Laughs] But yeah, there’s a lot at stake here for these guys, really testing their friendship. You wouldn’t think it could get any worse than what they’ve been through in the past. But I mean, this is kind of make or break for the Binary Bros, and it goes to their heads. I would say more Demetri, because he can’t handle change.

Jacob Bertrand: Yes, I will say that Demetri makes Hawk fall a great distance.

Mary Mouser: About porch height?

Jacob Bertrand: Almost at the height of a balcony.

Xolo Maridueña: Almost.

Gianni DeCenzo: It’s true.

Jacob Bertrand: But I see it coming, so it’s not so bad.

Xolo Maridueña: It was straight away, so you were able to reach out. [Laughs]

Jacob Bertrand: But it’s still by Demetri’s hands or feet.

Gianni DeCenzo: Well, no, yes.
